Description
Manages and oversees a variety of communication efforts of the City of Longview in order to create positive, informed relationships between the City and its citizens and employees. Provides media interviews and develops media and press releases for distributions; supervises the Communications Division and ensures current programs continue and grow; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Examples of Duties
- Plans, coordinates, implements, and oversees the City's communication efforts.
- Responds to media requests for information; develops press releases and submits to local media outlets and organizations.
- Provides information to the community regarding upcoming City events and related services.
- Oversees production of the City's internal and, if desired, external newsletter.
- Assists with various types of special events and/or communication projects conducted by the City Manager's Office; assists in organizing prayer and pledge for City Council meetings.
- Coordinates a variety of administrative projects; conducts project research; creates presentations; disseminates email articles.
- Provides assistance with the set-up, broadcast, and photography of Town meetings, news conferences, ribbon cuttings and/or other special events.
- Serves as Public Information Officer for the City of Longview and Emergency Operations Center.
- Collaborates with other neighboring governmental and institutional partners as required.
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel and ensures staff compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Develops, administers, and monitors budgets for areas of responsibility.
- Creates long term plans for the division and ensures the success of said plans.
- Works with various employees with communications-related duties throughout the City to coordinate city-wide communications efforts.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Communications or related field, and four years' experience coordinating municipal community relation activities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Work is performed in a standard office environment.
- Subject to sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting objects up to 40 pounds.
