Description of Work
Position Definition: Manages and implements aspects of stormwater and sanitary sewer systems including the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit. Provides planning, administration and supervision in the operation and maintenance of stormwater drainage and sanitary sewer systems. Provides technical support to City Departments, Committees, Boards, Authorities and Commissions.

Participates in the long-range and near-term planning for the Department.
Participates in the selection of consulting services for City projects and services.
When directed, represents the Chief of Public Works & Operations in public outreach and communication.
Accomplishes additional duties as assigned.
Supervised By: Receives general direction from the Supervisory Environmental Engineer and/or Principal Engineer.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to apply engineering principles to define problems, collect data, establish facts and develop practical solutions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions on construction, operations and maintenance in mathematical, diagrammatic or schematic form. Ability to plan, organize and oversee stormwater, sanitary sewer and environmental operations and projects in a varied municipal environment. Knowledge of methods and materials used in the construction, operations and maintenance of stormwater and sanitary sewer systems, to include familiarity with developing technology. Must have intimate working knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations regarding stormwater and sanitary sewer system operations and environmental impacts. Ability to deal effectively with staff, officials, project personnel and the public.

License or Certificate: Valid Motor Vehicle Operators License. Licensure as a Professional Engineer in the State of Connecticut.
