Position Overview
The Store Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and daily operation of the store. This position oversees store performance, financial results, merchandising, staffing, guest service, food safety, asset protection, and the development of department leadership. The Store Manager is expected to drive operational excellence while creating a strong guest experience and maintaining a high-performing team. The ideal candidate has operated stores with annual revenue of $20M+, is an active hands-on leader (not a sit at a desk and walk around manager), flexible and able to handle all financials, projections, forecasting, and merchandising, and is guest focused!
Key Responsibilities
Store Operations & Financial Performance
Direct daily store operations and ensure merchandise orders are placed at appropriate levels to support sales and inventory needs.
Review schedules, staffing levels, daily hours, and sales performance against projections, making adjustments as needed.
Monitor weekly financial results and proactively manage labor dollars, labor hours, shrink, sales, and supply expenses.
Analyze store and department trends, identify opportunities, and implement changes that improve performance.
Monitor competitive activity and provide recommendations based on market observations and business trends.
Oversee preparation and execution of department resets.
Ensure physical inventory preparation is completed accurately and on schedule.
Recommend annual capital expenditures and facility improvements.
Leadership & Team Development
Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to department managers and direct reports.
Establish priorities with department managers and ensure required tasks are completed to meet store readiness standards.
Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with department managers to maintain communication and accountability.
Assist with interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new associates.
Evaluate department manager performance and provide ongoing feedback.
Continuously assess employee performance, recognizing strengths while addressing opportunities for improvement.
Develop department managers and oversee training and development throughout the store.
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing store environment.
Guest Experience
Address and resolve guest questions, concerns, and comments promptly and professionally.
Maintain a strong focus on guest satisfaction and consistently look for opportunities to improve the overall shopping experience.
Demonstrate knowledge and enthusiasm for store products and services and encourage associates to do the same.
Food Safety, Compliance & Asset Protection
Ensure the store consistently meets all sanitation and food safety requirements.
Protect store assets, including cash, inventory, equipment, employees, and the physical facility.
Ensure maintenance concerns are properly documented and addressed.
Take immediate action regarding urgent safety, security, or asset protection issues.
Consistently follow all company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
Continuous Improvement
Stay current on industry practices through professional development, educational opportunities, publications, benchmarking, and networking.
Anticipate operational challenges and implement preventative measures to improve efficiency and the guest experience.
Contribute to broader organizational effectiveness and operational initiatives.
Successfully operate in a fast-paced, high-demand environment while effectively managing time-sensitive priorities and competing demands.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Retail Operations or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
4 to 5 years of management experience, preferably within food retail or a similar high-volume retail environment.
Food safety certification required or must be obtained within the required timeframe.
Strong leadership, coaching, and team development abilities.
Proven conflict resolution skills.
Strong merchandising capabilities, including the ability to create and execute displays that drive sales, profitability, customer interest, and meal solutions.
Excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and projects.
Strong verbal, written, and active listening communication skills.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and email.
Ability to quickly learn and effectively use proprietary software, applications, and technology.
