Store Manager

Position Summary

Pate Ace Home and Hardware is seeking an experienced, hands-on Store Manager to lead our team and oversee the daily operations of our Ace Hardware store. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who is committed to outstanding customer service, employee development, operational excellence, and achieving sales and profitability goals.

This position requires someone who can lead by example, stay organized, hold the team accountable, and remain actively involved in all areas of the store.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all daily store operations and ensure the store is clean, organized, fully stocked, and ready for customers.
• Recruit, train, coach, schedule, and manage store employees.
• Build a positive workplace culture centered on teamwork, accountability, and excellent customer service.
• Monitor store sales, gross profit, average transaction, labor costs, inventory, and other key performance indicators.
• Develop and execute plans to meet or exceed sales and profitability goals.
• Create effective employee schedules based on customer traffic, departmental needs, and labor goals.
• Ensure customers receive friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful service.
• Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.
• Oversee inventory accuracy, product ordering, receiving, stocking, merchandising, price changes, and cycle counts.
• Manage out-of-stock items and work with the inventory team to maintain appropriate product levels.
• Ensure sales, promotions, seasonal displays, and store events are properly executed.
• Oversee store services, including propane, key cutting, glass cutting, screen repair, equipment services, and other available programs.
• Support and grow business-to-business sales and community relationships.
• Ensure employees follow all company policies, safety procedures, cash-handling standards, and loss-prevention practices.
• Maintain communication with company leadership and complete required reports accurately and on time.
• Open and close the store as needed and respond to operational issues when they arise.
• Perform additional duties based on the needs of the business.

Qualifications

• Previous retail management or supervisory experience is required.
• Hardware, home improvement, building materials, or similar retail experience is preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience managing sales, payroll, labor, inventory, and store performance goals.
• Comfortable learning and using point-of-sale, scheduling, inventory, and reporting systems.
• Ability to coach employees, address performance concerns, and hold the team accountable.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to safely operate or become certified to operate a forklift, pallet jack, dolly, and other material-handling equipment.
• Knowledge of small-engine equipment and repair is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, reach, climb, and safely lift and carry merchandise.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to assist with stocking, loading, unloading, and other physical store duties as needed.
