Title Store Director

Purpose of Position
The Store Director is responsible for carrying the co-op's strategic plan from the co-op's leadership team into the retail location they lead and incorporating it into all aspects of daily store operations. The Store Director will lead all staff who work in the store, ensuring staff know what is expected of them, that they have the tools to be successful in their roles and that everyone in the store is working in support of the co-op's mission. They will ensure smooth daily store operations, prompt and friendly customer service, implementation of co-op wide merchandising and marketing plans, and a well-maintained store appearance.
The Store Director coordinates with their direct reports to ensure department operations are effective and meet Co-op standards. They will work with all direct reports to ensure fairness and equity for policy adherence. The Store Director helps create a positive work environment and develops positive and effective work relationships with direct reports. They ensure all departments meet customer service, sales, margins, and labor goals. The Store Director supports the co-op's commitment to being a diverse, equitable and inclusive place to shop and work. They will work to achieve the goals, objectives, and standards in alignment with TCCP's mission and supports the goals and strategies of the CEO.

Store Operations
- Uphold the Leadership Code of Conduct in all actions. Model expected leadership behaviors for all staff.
- Provide an excellent customer experience, monitor and follow-up on customer service survey scores.
- Ensure that all aspects of store operations serve TCCP's mission and values, implementing and adhering to global programs and expectations.
- Model exceptional customer service skills.
- Model exceptional communication and teamwork. Set the expectation and tone for workplace conduct.
- Implement and use effective tools for measuring if operational expectations are met, follow-up on any gaps that are discovered.
- Provide a consistent management and leadership presence in the store.
- Lead regular store management meetings
- Participate in regular TCCP meetings as required or requested.
- Develop annual strategic plans that support co-op wide plans for the coming year. Engage store leadership team and staff in the process.
- Collaborate with marketing and purchasing departments to develop meaningful and seasonal promotional plans that contribute to TCCP's overall marketing and merchandising goals.
- Coordinate operations between and among store departments.
- Ensure communication within the store and with TCCP is effective.
- Coordinate all aspects of store work with centralized TCCP administrative departments.
- Promote and comply with all relevant safety standards and health department requirements.
- Ensure proper maintenance of storefront, parking lot, and other co-op service areas.
- Monitor store equipment and fixtures and ensure they are maintained in good working order.
- Ensures store facility is safe and secure for customers, staff, equipment, and inventory.
- Lead union contract negotiations, working with HR and other parties as required. Act as primary contact for your unit's union.
- Ensure all legally and union required meetings take place (e.g. - Safety Committee, Leadership Management Committee, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned by senior co-op management.
Financial Performance
- Participate in developing annual operating and capital budgets for store following TCCP budgeting processes.
- Regularly review financial performance reports and adjust store operations as necessary to achieve sales, margin, and labor goals.
- Review departmental financial performance reports and work with department managers to develop appropriate operational responses as necessary to achieve goals.
- Develop and implement practices to ensure shrink is within industry standards.
- Supervise quarterly inventories.
- Propose budgets for all equipment maintenance and replacement needs.
Personnel Management
- Ensure employe relations issues are managed consistently and in alignment with applicable policies, past practices, union contracts and legal requirements. Partner with HR/CEO on significant employee relations issues.
- Foster an engaged workforce by supporting open communication, consistent expectations, and a respectful work environment.
- Ensure all staff in the store receive an annual performance evaluation. Complete, deliver, and follow-up on direct report annual performance evaluations. Make recommendations to HR/CEO for compensation adjustments.
- Monitor direct report schedules. Review and approve direct report time-off requests.
- Develop succession plans for the Store Director position, and all direct reports.
- Partner with Human Resources for recruiting efforts and participate in supervisory and management interviews in accordance with established guidelines.
- Conduct investigations and corrective action meetings following all legal and contract requirements.
- Ensures all departments maintain sufficient staffing for daily operations, within assigned labor budgets.
- Assists department managers with hiring department staff when necessary.
- Models behaviors of TCCP Key Ingredients.
Qualifications and Skills
- 5+ years supervisory and retail management experience that included significant financial oversight responsibilities (e.g. - inventory, labor, maintenance budgets, etc.)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to speak publicly to small and large groups.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Ability and willingness to work occasional nights and weekends.
- Ability and willingness to respond to after-hours emergencies.
- Experience with retail POS systems preferred.
- Experience with union workplaces preferred.
- Knowledge of current trends in natural foods industry preferred.
- 4-year degree preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work with customers and coworkers from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to work with TCCP to create an inclusive environment where all are welcomed.
