Sterile Processing Technician

Overview: The Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician maintain equipment and supplies in a state of sterility to be used in special procedures, the Operating Room, and Labor & Delivery. SPD Tech also maintains equipment inventory and disinfection for patient care equipment used in the hospital.

Overview:

The Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician maintain equipment and supplies in a state of sterility to be used in special procedures, the Operating Room, and Labor & Delivery. Maintains medical and surgical asepsis and principles of Standard Precautions at all times. SPD Tech also maintains equipment inventory and disinfection for patient care equipment used in the hospital. 

Responsibilities:

Decontaminates / disinfects reusable instruments, supplies and equipment, wearing proper protective attire. Actively participates in infection control measures by consistently using Standard Precautions, adhering to required work flow patterns and maintaining barriers to contamination. Processing / Assembly – accurately assembles and processes sterile instruments, supplies, and other items as needed.

Qualifications:

Completed an approved course in SPD or equivalent. Working knowledge of surgical instrumentation and sterilization procedures. Working knowledge of principles of Standard Precautions.
