We are seeking a hardworking and dependable Surgical Processing Technician to join our outpatient orthopedic surgery center. This role is essential to the daily success of our surgical team, ensuring that instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, sterilized, and ready for use. Position Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for collecting, cleaning, decontaminating, disinfecting, and/or sterilizing surgical instruments, trays, packs, reusable medical devices, and patient care equipment in accordance with established standards and procedures. This role ensures a sterile and fully functional supply of materials and equipment. The Sterile Processing Technician must possess a solid understanding of microbiology and infection control standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Collect, clean, decontaminate, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment following established protocols.

Operate and maintain sterile processing equipment, including washers, steam, gas, ultrasonic, and chemical sterilizers.

Interpret and verify autoclave printouts, load clearances, washer settings, auto-reader monitoring, and DART testing.

Clean and process airway devices such as laryngoscope blades and LMAs.

Inspect, assemble, and test general and specialty instrumentation to ensure proper functioning.

Determine appropriate washing and decontamination methods based on instrument type (e.g., power tools, cameras/scopes, batteries, light cords).

Select appropriate sterilization materials and methods for specific instruments and supplies.

Perform routine maintenance on equipment (e.g., cleaning filters and drains).

Prepare trays for designated areas according to departmental policies and procedures.

Maintain accurate and complete sterilization and inventory records.

Manage instrument and tray inventory levels to ensure adequate supply.

Education and Experience:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Certification: National certification as a Central/Sterile Processing Technician preferred, or completion of an accredited training program.

Experience:

One year of recent experience (within the last three years) in a comparable sterile processing or central service role required.

Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, supplies, and equipment preferred.

CPR/BCLS: Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proficient knowledge of reusable surgical and microsurgical instrumentation, power equipment, and sterilization procedures.

Understanding of infection control practices, standard precautions, and OSHA compliance.

Ability to use personal protective equipment (e.g., face mask, goggles, gloves) appropriately.

Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Familiarity with medical and surgical terminology.
