Summary of Purpose

Oakland Community College is seeking an instructor for the Sterile Processing Technician Training Program. The instructor will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of students in the didactic, online learning, and skills lab arenas. The instructor will provide quality education for students and perform instructional-related duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, mission, policies, and procedures of the program and college. This position works in a fast-paced, multi-cultural, diverse working environment.

Pay Rate: $43.52/hour

Expected Start Date: November/December 2026

NOTE: This position will transfer to our Orchard Ridge Campus effective Fall 2027

Typical Duties

This position includes didactic, online learning, and skills laboratory teaching opportunities. This position may include day and/or evening hours. This list is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all of the duties and responsibilities that may be required:

• Collaborates in the development of new curriculum, instructional materials, and evaluation tools; reviews and updates course outlines, textbooks, and syllabus for courses.
• Teaches courses and maintains written instructional standards; facilitates instruction using alternative delivery methods as needed; participates in the assessment of student learning outcomes.
• Utilizes educational technology and digital learning platforms to facilitate instruction and student success.
• Provides instruction in a classroom, lab, and online setting.
• Applies and maintains standards of quality operating methods, processes, systems, and procedures; implements changes and integrates knowledge of professional training to continuously improve program quality.
• Maintains accurate student progress records and monitors academic performance.
• Works collaboratively with students, colleagues, and staff members to integrate instructional activities and materials.
• Performs other related duties, as assigned.
• Ability to work additional hours, as needed.

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Academic preparation and experience in the delivery of innovative, evidence-based instruction in Sterile Processing education and other health professions at the community college or university level or professional equivalent.
• Ability to effectively use instructional technology and digital learning platforms.
• Ability to engage collaboratively and professionally with colleagues and students to ensure the successful achievement of student learning outcomes.
• Experience in actively engaging students to think critically while participating in the learning process.
• Demonstrates leadership in academic and clinical settings.

Minimum Education and Experience

High School Diploma/GED, or higher.

• AND -

Current Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) credential through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)

• AND -

Minimum of 3 years of work experience as a Sterile Processing Technician.

This position is not associated with any OCC benefits except for MPSERS (Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System) with ORS (the Michigan Office of Retirement Services).
