Job Summary:
Transport soiled instruments from all areas of hospital (OR, VASC & CATH LAB, LDRP, IRAD and ER) as well as responsible for delivering sterile instruments to all these areas as well.
Accountabilities:
• 1. Safely transports instruments/trays/supplies in a timely manner
• · Delivers and retrieves instruments/trays from procedural areas within given timeframes
• · Checks surgical instruments being retrieved from the procedural areas to ensure instruments are wiped free of blood and enzymatic solution has been applied
• · Understands the needs and expectations of sterile processing and procedural areas
• 2. Demonstrates basic knowledge of sterile instrumentation process
• · Has an overall understanding of the various areas of the department and the standards/rules that apply
• · Demonstrates knowledge in identification of sterilized vs non-sterilized instruments
• · Demonstrates knowledge and technical skills in operating of instrument washers and cart washing equipment.
• 3. Demonstrates Safe handling techniques and follows necessary precautions
• · Demonstrates safe handling of equipment in order to protect him/herself and others.
• · Transports trays/instruments utilizing proper precautions.
• 4. Demonstrates positive and effective communication skills
• · Contributes to a Cohesive and productive environment.
• · Demonstrates critical thinking skills in order to prioritize assignments
• · Seeks supervision and clarification of performance when appropriate
• · Utilizes effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others including vendors and other associates
• · Demonstrates initiative in completion of assigned work
• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
