This professional position entails highly skilled instructional and supervisory work in the development, planning, organizing, and implementing of the library's STEM and Industrial Arts Programming.
This position will supervise and provide technological literacy instruction to the public, through the use of Industrial Arts Mechanical and Electrical tools, computer applications software, and new technologies in specific program area(s), such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM); Leadership, and Character Development. An employee in this class creates and implements programs teaching the use of fabrications tools to individuals and groups. The position requires interaction with metal and woodworking tools, application software, operating systems, new technologies, and consults with employees/patrons to resolve issues.
This is a "mandatory-testing" position that requires Drug Testing.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Leads, develops, and teaches educational programs that feature the fabrication of objects in wood, plastics, ceramics, metal working, electrical and mechanical design using a variety of hand, power, or machine tools
Supervises and coordinates STEM instructors to develop educational programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics
Implements and integrates Industrial Arts skills into the library's STEM programming
Teaches STEM instructors industrial arts and engineering related skills, as necessary
Provides analysis and observation of student and instructor performance
Provides prompt feedback to improve instructor's instructional quality and performance
Insures the good order, cleanliness, and security of the Industrial Arts tools/machinery, STEM devices, and public computer access points
Provides support in the designing of Industrial Arts and STEM activities and lessons, providing content knowledge in Industrial Art and STEM
Promotes creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while educating the public and staff on Industrial Art and STEM concepts
Creates innovative, hands-on activities that encourage independent exploration, fosters curiosity, develops critical thinking, and builds resilience
Develops a collection of reference and self-instruction materials for STEM, Industrial Arts, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
Recommends books, videos, electronic resources, new technologies, and other library materials for inclusion in the library collection in support of the educational and recreational classes taught
Leads programs to expose students to the basics of repair, manual craftsmanship, and machine safety
Provides instruction on use of both simple and complex technologies, including, but not limited to, mechanical/electrical design, robotics, electronics, Computer Aided Design and emerging technologies
Works with community agencies and groups to develop specific programs for special populations (elderly, children, youth groups, etc.)
Develops and coordinates outreach, public engagement, and education activities, including leading hands-on activities
Assists with report writing to communicate accomplishments and project deliverables
Answers general correspondence by responding to phone calls and email inquiries
Participates in meetings, training sessions, and opportunities for professional development
Provides project administrative duties, as needed, and conduct outreach and educational activities
Performs other duties as assigned
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Training and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering and at least three years of experience in wood working, metal working, electrical repair/design, or mechanical repair/design; or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess a valid driver's license from state of residence

Emergency Management Responsibilities:
During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situations and is expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity, and repetitive motions. Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to electrical currents, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel.
