Description

The structural Engineer is expected to be the technical expert for the customer design, applied loads and all 
associated safety requirements to accommodate the customer expecta ons in addi on to applying solid value 
engineering such that the best applied use of material will minimize material costs for the company.  This 
posi on will support both new plant projects and the a ermarket side in support of maintenance or 
turnaround situa ons. 

Job Responsibilities

Structural Engineer Expectations include but are not limited to: 
 Meeting of assigned design delivery dates for customer review.    
 Static engineering designs using STAAD Pro software.   
 Working in both SI and imperial units of measure for both international and domestic customers. 
 Ability to understand different steel shapes and properties.  (ASTM, GB, JIS, DIN etc) 
 Review of each assigned project to ensure the scope of work, technical requirements and delivery of 
information is understood. 
 Preparation of design reports, design intents, and drawings as is necessary 
 Engaging the customer for meetings to include project KOM, clarifications of design, or any structural 
related issues as required.  
 Work with Joenic design/drafting personnel to ensure drawings and documents match the design intent 
and compliance needs.   
 Provide technical advice on safe designs to include fabrication, lifting/erecting, and field installation.  
 Use AutoCAD or similar technology for simulation purposes to include interference checking.  

Qualifications

Structural Engineer Requirements: 
 Approximately 5 to 10 years of design experience 
 Accredited engineering degree in a structural field – civil, architectural, or mechanical.  
 Strong structural steel design experience for industrial applications. 
 Holding a current PE license and/or on track to be licensed is not required but is definitely a plus 
 Solid understanding of OSHA practices and applications for structural design to include 
ladder/platforms/handrails, stair towers, and personnel safety devices.   
 Familiarity with the AISC Specifications, IBC, ASCE 7 and other design codes 
 Previous work with structural analysis software, preferably STAAD 
 Good communication skills and the ability to thoroughly discuss designs and plans.  
 Familiarity with 2D AutoCAD or similar software along with experience with 3D software such as AutoCAD, 
NX, Navisworks, SolidWorks and others.  
 Basic computer skills such as MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.   
 Excellent oral and written communication skills for client communication. 
 Ability to organize and handle multiple project assignments while meeting tight design deadlines. 
 Ability to analyze and develop solutions for unexpected job site or design challenges.  
 Work with the team to provide structural design or code request guidance.  
 Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
