POSITION OVERVIEW
As a Steel Project Manager your roles and responsibilities will include:
The client is seeking a Steel Project Manager to lead and manage commercial construction projects with a strong focus on self-perform structural steel operations. This individual will oversee project planning, budgeting, scheduling, subcontractor management, procurement, safety, and client relations from project startup through closeout. The Project Manager will work closely with superintendents, owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all phases of commercial construction projects, including structural steel packages.
  • Lead project planning, scheduling, procurement, buyout, and subcontract administration.
  • Review and manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and change orders.
  • Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and field teams.
  • Conduct OAC meetings, progress meetings, and project reviews.
  • Monitor project budgets, forecasts, costs, and profitability.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules using construction scheduling software.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, schedule impacts, and cost overruns.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Oversee project closeout activities, including punch lists, warranties, and final documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Most importantly, you need to be a passionate Steel Project Manager who enjoys his work and is considered to be one of the best within your organization. The ideal Steel Project Manager would be someone with deep experience in many (if not all) of the following:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of project management experience in commercial construction.
  • Experience managing structural steel or self-perform steel construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction means, methods, scheduling, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Experience with subcontractor management, procurement, and contract administration.
  • Proficiency with construction management, scheduling, and accounting software.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as needed.

Preferred Background

  • Commercial General Contractor (GC) experience.
  • Experience with office, healthcare, higher education, industrial, manufacturing, mixed-use, or data center projects.
  • Knowledge of Lean Construction principles.
  • Experience managing large structural steel packages and coordinating multiple trades.
