Review structural framing layouts, member sizing, connection concepts, and overall steel configurations.
Identify potential design conflicts, missing information, and opportunities for optimization.
Support design coordination meetings and provide technical recommendations throughout the design process.
Assist with evaluating alternative structural steel systems, materials, and design approaches.
Preconstruction & Design Development
Provide engineering input during conceptual design, schematic design, and design development phases.
Support Design-Assist and Design-Build project delivery methods.
Evaluate preliminary structural steel designs to identify potential cost, schedule, and fabrication impacts.
Partner with preconstruction managers and estimators to assess design feasibility and project requirements.
Recommend design modifications that improve material efficiency, fabrication productivity, and installation sequencing.
Assist with developing preliminary structural steel scopes and technical project requirements.
Identify engineering risks and potential design changes before final construction documents are issued.
Constructability & Value Engineering
Perform constructability reviews of proposed structural steel designs.
Evaluate framing configurations, structural connections, and fabrication requirements.
Recommend value engineering opportunities to reduce material waste, fabrication complexity, and installation costs.
Assess potential impacts of design decisions on steel procurement, shop production, transportation, and erection.
Collaborate with fabrication and field operations teams to incorporate lessons learned into early design.
Identify opportunities to improve standardization, modularization, and prefabrication.
Support evaluation of connection strategies and structural systems to improve constructability.
Structural Steel Technical Support
Interpret structural engineering drawings, specifications, and design criteria.
Review preliminary steel member configurations, connection concepts, and framing details.
Assist in evaluating structural loads, design assumptions, and engineering requirements.
Provide technical input regarding structural steel materials, fabrication tolerances, and applicable industry standards.
Support coordination of design-related RFIs and technical clarifications.
Work with licensed engineers when formal calculations, structural design approval, or professional engineering certification are required.
Identify potential coordination issues involving steel structures, foundations, mechanical systems, and other building components.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with preconstruction, estimating, engineering, detailing, fabrication, and construction teams.
Participate in design coordination meetings with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
Provide technical recommendations to support accurate estimates and project proposals.
Communicate design risks, engineering concerns, and recommended solutions to project stakeholders.
Assist with transitioning design information from preconstruction into detailing, fabrication, and construction.
Support continuous improvement of EZARC's structural steel preconstruction and design review processes.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline.
3+ years of experience in structural steel engineering, design coordination, or preconstruction.
Experience reviewing structural steel drawings and engineering specifications.
Strong understanding of structural steel framing systems, connections, and fabrication methods.
