Shape the backbone of a state-of-the-art steel operation
Step into a modern steel manufacturing facility where advanced automation meets high-power distribution. As the on-shift electrical expert, you’ll keep large-scale production moving by diagnosing and repairing complex issues across PLCs, drives, motors, and high-voltage equipment.
A day in the life
Your shift might begin with a quick review of overnight events, then straight to a mill line where a sensor fault is halting production. You’ll trace signals through schematics, isolate an input issue, tweak Siemens S7 logic, verify communications, and bring the line back on. Later, you’ll inspect a motor control center, replace a VFD fan, and coordinate an arc-flash-safe test on a 4,160V feeder—all while collaborating with production, maintenance, and engineering to minimize downtime.
What you’ll own
- Hands-on troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of industrial electrical and automated systems across the steel plant.
- Diagnosis of faults on 480V, 4,160V, 13.5kV, and distribution systems up to 345kV, as qualified and authorized.
- PLC logic troubleshooting, monitoring, and modification—primarily Siemens S7—covering I/O, communications, sensors, and control circuits.
- Upkeep of VFDs, three-phase motors, MCCs, transformers, and switchgear.
- Use of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation to pinpoint failures.
- Preventive and corrective maintenance that boosts reliability and reduces unplanned downtime.
- Close partnership with maintenance, engineering, and operations to resolve equipment breakdowns quickly.
- Strict adherence to electrical safety practices: LOTO, arc-flash protection, and proper test methods.
What you bring
- Proven electrical maintenance experience in heavy industrial or manufacturing settings.
- Strong command of industrial power distribution, motor controls, and control circuitry.
- Hands-on PLC troubleshooting experience; Siemens S7 exposure preferred.
- Ability to go beyond basic fault codes to debug PLC logic and restore functionality.
- Experience with VFDs, three-phase motors, sensors, and industrial control systems.
- Familiarity with medium- and high-voltage equipment is a strong plus.
- Confidence reading schematics and independently diagnosing complex electrical issues.
- Mechanical aptitude, a problem-solver’s mindset, and an unwavering safety focus.
