    Description

    Summary  

    The Steady Rest Mechanical Technician prepares packages for shipping and installation of workholding equipment and may be required to install or repair equipment at various remote locations. 

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

    Maintains inventory of standard workholding components by checking inventory levels and preparing requisitions for purchase of stock components. 

    Works with vendors in selection of compatible workholding components and delivery of workholding parts from vendors. 

    Updates standard installation parts lists for workholding in excel spreadsheets. 

    Works from assembly drawings to build up valve packages for workholding products by assembling components to specifications. 

    Makes hydraulic rubber and stainless steel hose assemblies for workholding packages by measuring and cutting hoses to length, operating a saw, and operating a die crimper.. 

    Works from assembly drawings to build up base and bracket assemblies by assembling components to specifications.  

    Pulls parts and prepares parts items needed to fill orders from Field Service Technicians for  completion of workholding product installations.  

    Prepares packages for shipment including boxing, skidding, shrink wrapping, and banding. 

    Operates company forklift as necessary. 

    Assists Production Department with Assembly when time is available 

     

    Supplemental Duties and Responsibilities as follows:  

    Performs field service installations as required (approximately 10% or less of the time of total work performed) with duties as listed below: 

    Installs and repairs new or modified workholding components equipment at customer's facility to ensure full functionality according to specifications.  

    Inspects malfunctioning or damaged product to determine nature and scope of problem. 

    Visually inspects and tests components and equipment for defects and malfunctions. 

    Analyzes review and inspection findings to determine source of problem, and recommends repair, replacement, or other corrective action. 

    Coordinates problem resolution with engineering, customer service, and other personnel to expedite repairs. 

    Dismantles defective products and equipment and installs replacement parts. 

    Provides on-site and telephone technical assistance to help troubleshoot and repair equipment. 

    Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, wiring and electrical components of machinery and equipment. 

    Installs and repairs hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, including gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment. 

    Provides a communication link between the customer and the company to help ensure that effective service is provided to the customer. 

    Conducts operational, maintenance, and safety training during product install on the operations of the equipment and demonstrates skills to trainees, including both team members and customers. 

    Documents installation and repair of equipment. 

    Documents telephone conversations on troubleshooting for future reference. 

    Remains current with new and existing product information, including installation procedures, and participates in available training programs. 

    Recognizes the setup and operation of machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, and milling machine to repair or fabricate parts. 

    Responsible for returning any warranty parts delivered to his care, properly identified as required by the established procedure of the Operations Department. 

    Responsible for care and upkeep of individual and company tools and equipment. 

    Presents the desired image of the company both internally and externally through proper dress and demeanor. 

    Diligent in remaining cost effective on travel arrangements and accommodations. 

    Performs other such duties required to maintain the established standards of performance as determined by the National Product Manager, Steady Rests and Collect Chucks.
