Location: Atlanta, GA (Hybrid, 3 Days Onsite) Local Candidates Only
Compensation: $110,000 to $125,000 Base Salary plus Annual Bonus

Role Summary

The State Tax Manager will serve as a key technical resource responsible for state and local tax compliance, with a strong emphasis on indirect tax and Sales and Use Tax. Reporting to senior tax leadership, this position will take ownership of complex state tax matters while helping the organization strengthen processes, maintain compliance, and navigate an evolving multi state environment.

This role requires someone who can operate independently and provide technical guidance from day one. The State Tax Manager will oversee state tax filings, research, notices, audits, reconciliations, and tax related inquiries while supervising and developing one team member.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage state and local tax compliance with a primary focus on Sales and Use Tax and property tax

• Oversee multi state tax reporting and coordinate data required for timely and accurate tax filings

• Manage state tax notices, audits, and inquiries, including preparation of supporting documentation and responses

• Research evolving state and local tax regulations and provide technical recommendations to leadership

• Perform and review monthly reconciliations of Sales and Use Tax and property tax balance sheet accounts

• Serve as a subject matter expert for internal teams regarding state specific tax treatment and compliance matters

• Maintain organized tax workpapers, records, and supporting documentation to ensure audit readiness

• Supervise and develop one team member while driving process improvements across the tax function

Key Requirements

• Three or more years of progressive state and local tax experience with strong technical indirect tax expertise

• Extensive hands on Sales and Use Tax experience across multiple states, with nationwide exposure strongly preferred

• Strong knowledge of state and local tax regulations with the ability to research and interpret complex tax guidance independently

• Experience supporting multi entity organizations with complex legal and operational structures

• Proficiency with tax research tools, accounting systems, and multiple ERP environments

• Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to accuracy, documentation, and compliance

• Ability to independently manage multiple projects and take ownership of technical tax matters with limited oversight

• Strong communication, leadership, and relationship building skills with the ability to collaborate across departments

Preferred Skills

• Big 4 or other public accounting experience combined with corporate tax experience

• CPA or Master's degree in Taxation or a related discipline

• Experience managing or supervising tax professionals

• Experience supporting Sales and Use Tax compliance across all 50 states

• Property tax experience, including real property tax exposure

• Experience within a rapidly growing or acquisitive organization

• Background improving tax processes, controls, and compliance procedures
