Advance Your Career as a State Fire Marshal Lieutenant. Take the next step in your career by serving in a leadership role with the Office of State Fire Marshal. As a Lieutenant, you'll lead and mentor Deputies, oversee complex inspections and investigations, serve as a subject matter expert, and support critical emergency response operations. From coordinating fire service resources during disasters to providing training, supporting policy and legislative initiatives, and managing special projects, you'll have the opportunity to lead with purpose and make a lasting impact on public safety across Louisiana.
Minimum Qualifications
All qualifying options will also require an approved certification at the time of appointment (hire) or promotion:
Five years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR
An associate's degree in any field plus four years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR
An associate's degree in a criminal justice field, a fire service field, a construction field, architecture, or an engineering field plus three years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR
A bachelor's degree in any field plus two years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR
A bachelor's degree in a criminal justice field, a fire service field, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field plus one year of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field.

Appointment Type: This position is a promotional opportunity for current, permanent employees of DPS/State Fire Marshal.
Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday-Friday
