    Location: Los Angeles, California 90071
    Employment Type: Full Time
    Work Setting: Hybrid / Onsite
    Schedule: 3 days per week in office required
    The State and Local Tax – Income & Franchise Senior Associate will provide state and local income and franchise tax compliance, consulting, planning, and research services for multiple clients. This position will manage tax engagements from planning through completion, review tax returns, conduct multi-state tax analyses, respond to tax authorities, and supervise and mentor junior staff.
    The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of progressive state income tax compliance experience, a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, and a CPA or demonstrated progress toward CPA. Candidates from Top 10 CPA firms, excluding CBIZ, are preferred.
    Key Responsibilities
    • Manage client tax engagements from planning through completion while meeting budgets and deadlines.
    • Prepare and review State & Local Income/Franchise Tax returns.
    • Perform tax planning, consulting, compliance, and research.
    • Review tax returns prepared by staff and identify accuracy and tax-saving opportunities.
    • Prepare technical memorandums and client correspondence.
    • Conduct multi-state tax reviews involving income, franchise, sales and use, payroll, ad valorem, and other state and local taxes.
    • Identify optimal filing options, exemptions, credits, incentives, and corporate structures.
    • Perform reverse sales tax reviews, audit defense, and sales tax research as needed.
    • Respond to inquiries from the IRS and other tax authorities.
    • Supervise, train, and mentor associates and interns.
    • Participate as the in-charge professional on engagements as needed.
    • Conduct increasingly complex tax analyses and demonstrate knowledge of advanced tax concepts.
    • Collaborate with Income/Franchise Tax professionals and other teams to meet client needs.
    • Maintain strong client relationships and deliver high-quality work.
    • Travel as needed for client and business requirements.
    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
    • 2+ years of progressive experience in state income tax compliance; overall position requirement is 2–6 years of progressive tax compliance and/or tax consulting experience.
    • Demonstrated experience with State & Local Tax / Income & Franchise Tax.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and strong computer skills.
    • Ability to travel as needed.
    • Ability to work 3 days per week in the Los Angeles office.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • CPA certification preferred.
    • Demonstrated progress toward CPA preferred.
    • JD or Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation preferred.
    • Experience with multi-state tax compliance and consulting.
    • Experience with income, franchise, sales and use, payroll, and ad valorem tax matters.
    • Public accounting experience, particularly with a Top 10 CPA firm other than CBIZ, preferred.
