    Job Title: State and Local Tax – Income & Franchise Manager
    Location: Bellevue, WA / San Francisco, CA 94111 / San Jose, CA
    Employment Type: Full Time
    Work Setting: Hybrid / Onsite
    Schedule: 3 days per week in office required
    The State and Local Tax – Income & Franchise Manager will lead multiple client engagements and provide comprehensive state and local income/franchise tax planning, consulting, and compliance services. This position will manage client service teams, oversee complex multi-state tax projects, provide technical tax guidance, mentor staff, manage project budgets and deliverables, and serve as a trusted business advisor to clients.
    The ideal candidate will have 6+ years of progressive state income tax compliance and/or tax consulting experience, a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, and an active CPA license, JD with an active law license in good standing, or Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation.
    Candidates from Top 10 CPA firms, excluding CBIZ, are preferred.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage, direct, and monitor multiple client service teams and engagements.
    • Plan, execute, direct, and complete tax projects across various industries.
    • Provide State and Local Tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise.
    • Manage engagement budgets, project tasks, timelines, and deliverables.
    • Manage, develop, train, and mentor staff on tax projects.
    • Assess staff performance for engagement and year-end reviews.
    • Oversee State and Local Tax return preparation and review.
    • Conduct tax research and prepare technical memorandums and client correspondence.
    • Counsel clients in defending against state tax audits.
    • Manage multidisciplinary, multi-state tax reviews involving:
      • Income tax
      • Franchise tax
      • Sales and use tax
      • Payroll tax
      • Ad valorem tax
    • Identify filing options, exemptions, credits, incentives, and corporate structures that can reduce clients' tax burdens.
    • Advise clients on business and process improvement opportunities.
    • Serve as a business advisor and trusted tax resource to clients.
    • Support business development activities, including opportunity identification, proposal development, and client pursuits.
    • Manage multiple project responsibilities simultaneously while maintaining quality and deadlines.
    • Travel as needed.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
    • 6+ years of progressive tax compliance and/or tax consulting experience.
    • Active CPA license, OR JD with an active law license in good standing, OR Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation.
    • Strong experience with State & Local Tax / Income and Franchise Tax.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong project management and organizational skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously.
    • Strong computer skills.
    • Ability to lead, develop, train, and mentor staff.
    • Ability to travel as needed.
    • Ability to work 3 days per week in the office.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with Top 10 CPA firms, excluding CBIZ.
    • Extensive multi-state tax compliance and consulting experience.
    • Experience with state tax audits and audit defense.
    • Experience across income, franchise, sales/use, payroll, and ad valorem taxation.
    • Strong client advisory and business development experience.
    • Experience managing complex multidisciplinary tax engagements.
