Tesla is seeking a Staff Manufacturing Engineer to select and develop new Wafer equipment and processes for energy products at massive scale. You will help deploy 100GW of solar manufacturing from raw materials on American soil before the end of 2028. You will drive technical decisions for the next generation of manufacturing equipment and factory design for energy products at Tesla. This role is core to Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work with a highly motivated team on extremely challenging projects.
Evaluate manufacturing technology paths for semiconductor and solar manufacturing equipment
Provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Reliability (DFR) input to product designers
Guide cross-functional down-selection of optimal applied process strategy, tech, and product interface definitions
Rigorous process and equipment development to achieve capability, performance, and quality targets
Process validation and optimization from initial prototype builds through release to full-scale production
Drive proof-of-concept to greenlight new and novel methods, technologies, and suppliers
Evolve the manufacturing knowledge base through experiments, standards, and benchmarking
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or equivalent experience
10+ years of solar manufacturing, semiconductor manufacturing, or equivalent relevant experience
Experience developing and implementing Wafer tools/processes used in high-volume production environments
Experience developing Crystalline Silicon (c-Si) cells
Proficiency in experimental design and process development
Capability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%

Expected Compensation
$156,000 - $234,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
