Company / Research Environment
Our client s a preclinical research organization supporting pharmaceutical and biotechnology research. The organization conducts in-vivo studies across a variety of animal models and specializes heavily in surgical research and targeted drug-delivery studies.
Primary species include:
* Non-human primates
* Swine
* Canine
* Rats
* Mice
Important:Non-human primate experience is not required. It is the primary species they work with, but they are open to veterinarians with strong experience in other relevant laboratory animal or large-animal environments.
Overview:
This veterinarian will provide clinical and veterinary support for the research animals and work closely with the veterinary technicians, surgical teams, research staff, and surgeons.
Most of the studies are surgical in nature. The veterinarian is not necessarily performing the surgeries themselves. The client has dedicated surgeons and surgical technicians who handle the majority of the surgical work.
The veterinarian's role is particularly important when complications arise during or following procedures. For example, if an animal experiences an anesthesia-related complication or develops a medical issue, the veterinarian may be pulled into the case to provide treatment and clinical oversight.
The veterinarian will also work closely with the veterinary technicians on the ongoing care, health, and well-being of the animal colonies.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
* Provide veterinary care and clinical oversight for research animals
* Work closely with veterinary technicians to maintain animal health and welfare
* Respond to medical issues and complications that arise during research procedures
* Provide treatment and clinical decision-making when anesthesia or surgical complications occur
* Support surgical teams and research staff as needed
* Monitor animals before, during, and after procedures
* Assist with emergency and urgent medical cases
* Participate in preventive and routine veterinary care
* Support the overall health and well-being of the animal colonies
* Collaborate with surgeons, surgical technicians, veterinary technicians, researchers, and study personnel
* Maintain appropriate veterinary records and documentation
* Support regulatory and animal-welfare requirements
Surgical Environment
The majority of the organization's studies are surgical.
The veterinarian will work alongside:
* Experienced surgeons
* Surgical technicians
* Veterinary technicians
* Research personnel
* Study teams
The veterinarian is not expected to be the primary surgeon. Instead, they provide veterinary oversight and step in when clinical expertise is needed, particularly when complications arise involving anesthesia, recovery, treatment, or animal welfare.
Travel Between Facilities
There are two research sites and the veterinarian will work between both locations.
* The veterinarian will need to be comfortable traveling between the two facilities
