    What you'll do...

    Role summary:  

    The (USA) Staff, Software Engineer plays a critical role in delivering scalable platform capabilities and driving the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. This position leads technical execution aligned with strategic roadmaps, applies cloud-native architecture principles, and integrates AI/ML solutions to enhance platform functionality. The role involves mentoring engineers, influencing architectural decisions, and collaborating across teams to solve complex problems. A commitment to engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement ensures high-quality, maintainable, and resilient software solutions that support business objectives.  

    About the team: 
     
    The Content Science team combines data science with extended reality to create innovative, personalized content experiences for Walmart customers. Utilizing advanced technologies such as generative AI, machine learning, and XR, the team transforms how customers engage with products both in-store and beyond. Focused on platform design, software development, and AI integration, the team drives scalable, resilient solutions that enhance shopping and discovery. Collaboration and continuous improvement are central, enabling the delivery of cutting-edge applications that align with business goals and elevate the customer experience through data-driven innovation and technical excellence.  
     
    What you'll do:  

    • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities. 

    • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems. 

    • Lead full software development lifecycle activities including coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance. 

    • Lead developing and maintaining SDLC best practices and ML engineering patterns for the data science team to ensure development of resilient, scalable, maintainable and interoperable machine learning pipelines 

    • Conduct system design reviews to validate quality and alignment with architectural standards. 

    • Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components to support automation and multi-step reasoning. 

    • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing. 

    • Collaborate across teams to define technical requirements and optimize development processes using data-driven practices. 

     
    What you'll bring:  

    • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems. 

    • Strong experience in software development lifecycle management, encompassing coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance. 

    • Proficiency in API design, software prototyping, and applying software design patterns for secure, modular, and maintainable solutions. 

    • Demonstrated ability in platform engineering, infrastructure tooling, and DevOps practices to enhance engineering productivity. 

    • Demonstrated track record of designing, building and maintaining real-time and offline machine learning pipelines adhering to strict scalability and security standards 

    • Skilled in debugging, problem solving, and data-driven decision making to optimize development processes and product quality. 

    • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions to promote engineering excellence and sustainability. 

    • Adaptability to evolving technologies and collaboration across teams to deliver aligned, high-quality solutions. 

    • Background in compute and GPU architecture understanding and optimization.

    The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
