Description

Summary:

  • Schedule: Mon-Fri 0700-1600
  • Work Mode: Onsite
  • Location: 513 Parnassus Avenue

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct animal health surveillance for rodents and other species as assigned
  • Communicate lab and health information to researchers
  • Support website function
  • Understand and participate in rodent sentinel health or similar programs
  • Draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Provide training to Lab or LARC staff
  • Understand and perform necropsy techniques and other diagnostic or clinical diagnostic techniques
  • Understand and perform administrative tasks as needed by LARC
  • Assist LARC’s animal health and rodent health programs and support LARC veterinarians and company research projects

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds; standing, walking, bending, and stooping at regular intervals
  • Working with animals of various sizes for periods of up to 4-5 hours
  • Valid California Driver’s license and participation in the California DMV’s Pull Notice System
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to 7 hours/day
  • Ability to push and pull heavy objects and safely move and/or lift heavy loads
  • Perform tasks that require the use of personal protective equipment
  • Mandatory participation in the department’s occupational health monitoring program and pre-employment medical evaluation

Preferred Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze lab reports, summarize findings, and communicate results
  • Excellent organizational, computer, and technical skills for database management, file maintenance, spreadsheets, and word processing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to review data, research protocols, or other written documents and provide guidance or training
  • Possess or have demonstrated aptitude for quickly obtaining a working knowledge of regulations and animal welfare requirements
