Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities, prevents illness and injury, and alleviates suffering through diagnosis, treatment, and advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible for compliance with standards of practice and professional development according to the New York State Nurse Practice Act, United Health Services policies, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the Code of Ethics for Nurses. The RN fosters a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage nursing care for a group of patients, serving as a primary or accountable nurse.
- Educate patients and families in health promotion and disease management.
- Administer medications safely according to UHS Hospitals policy.
- Ensure productivity and effective resource utilization.
- Comply with nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in the Nursing Shared Governance Model and improvement initiatives.
- Engage in professional development and continuing education.
- Integrate nursing research and evidence into practice.
- Support new employees and students in a learning environment.
- Perform duties related to Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator roles as assigned.
- Participate in the Clinical Ladder Program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Experience
- 6 months – 3 years of Nursing (RN) experience.
- Collaboration, communication, judgment, and critical thinking skills.
- Organizational understanding and planning skills.
- Problem-solving, quality, reliability, and safety management skills.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Previous clinical nursing experience in acute care or ambulatory settings.
Schedule & Certifications
12 nights, 36 hours/week, every 3rd weekend. Required certifications: BLS, ACLS.
Required Experience
Experience with intensive cardiac patients, including CHF, COPD, end-stage heart failure, cardiogenic shock, septic shock, GI bleeds, CRRT, IABP, Impella, normothermia, and stroke patients with thrombectomy/TNK. ICU overflow experience is also required.
