About the Role

At GAP Inc., our store networks are foundational to how we serve customers and enable store teams across thousands of global locations. The Staff Network Engineer - Stores Network plays a critical role in designing, operating, and evolving the network infrastructure that supports todays stores while enabling the Store of the Future through innovative and emerging technologies.

This role is ideal for a senior engineer who thrives in large-scale retail environments, enjoys solving complex problems, and is passionate about building reliable, secure, and scalable networks that power in-store digital experiences.

Key Outcomes & Responsibilities

  1. Raise the Technical and Operational Bar • Design and implement next-generation LAN/WAN Wi-Fi and SD-WAN architectures across all Gap Inc. distribution and campus environments. • Lead modernization initiatives to increase network uptime and performance by measurable KPIs, e.g., MTTR reduction, latency improvement. • Partner with Cloud and Security teams to integrate hybrid and multi-cloud networking, Azure, OCI.

  2. Drive Automation and Efficiency • Champion network automation and orchestration using Python, Ansible, or equivalent frameworks to eliminate manual configuration drift. • Define and deliver self-service and zero-touch provisioning models across network domains. • Establish repeatable processes and monitoring systems that deliver predictable, auditable network operations.

  3. Deliver Resilient Scalable Connectivity • Engineer highly available, fault-tolerant connectivity for Gap Inc.s distribution centers and corporate campuses. • Implement observability and proactive incident detection through modern telemetry tools, Mist, AI, Juniper HealthBot, Prometheus. • Lead continuous improvement and root cause elimination programs tied to quantifiable reliability metrics.

  4. Partner, Lead, and Influence • Collaborate with internal Infrastructure leadership and managed service providers to co-own delivery outcomes and service-level excellence. • Provide technical mentorship and knowledge uplift for junior engineers and peers through documentation workshops and post-incident reviews. • Model high-impact behaviors - ownership, curiosity, accountability, and bias for action - in every engagement.

  5. Enable Innovation and Continuous Growth • Evaluate and integrate emerging network technologies - from AIOps and intent-based networking to cloud-native network services. • Contribute to strategic planning, budgeting, and modernization roadmaps aligned with Infrastructure transformation objectives. • Build and maintain detailed network documentation and lifecycle management standards aligned with compliance and change control.

About the Company

The Gap Inc

Doris and Don Fisher opened the first Gap store in 1969 with a simple idea -- to make it easier to find a pair of jeans and a commitment to do more. Over the last 46 years, the company has grown from a single store to a global fashion business with five brands -- Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Athleta and Intermix. Gap's clothes are available in 90 countries worldwide through 3,300 company-operated stores, almost 400 franchise stores, and e-commerce sites and is still growing. Many companies work to improve their services and businesses every day by using GAP Testers who anonymously go into various places and report back to the companies on everything from cleanliness, customer service to quality control. Being a tester is a very flexible, fun job with lots of benefits.
