We are seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design and development of low-voltage and high-voltage wire harness systems for large-scale battery and energy storage platforms. This position will own harness architecture from early concept through production, working closely with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and supplier teams.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience designing complex harness systems for high-volume electromechanical products and can balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and serviceability throughout the product lifecycle.
Lead mechanical architecture and development of LV and HV wire harness systems from concept through production.
Develop 3D harness routing, component layouts, mounting strategies, and mechanical interfaces within complex battery systems.
Select connectors, terminals, cables, protective materials, clips, brackets, and other harness components based on electrical, mechanical, environmental, and manufacturing requirements.
Create and maintain detailed 2D manufacturing and assembly drawings for harness fabrication.
Partner with electrical, mechanical, structural, sensor, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and assembly teams to resolve design challenges and drive product development.
Perform design trade studies balancing functionality, durability, performance, cost, DFM, DFA, and serviceability.
Work directly with suppliers to transition designs from engineering concepts into production-ready hardware.
Support prototype builds, validation, production launch, manufacturing ramp, and post-production improvements.
Design harness systems capable of operating in demanding environments, including exposure to vibration, contamination, moisture, temperature variation, and other environmental stresses.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction, design optimization, and manufacturing efficiency across the product lifecycle.
Establish and improve engineering, design, and quality standards for wire harness systems.
Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions related to harness design, assembly, reliability, and production issues.
Evaluate new harness technologies, materials, components, and manufacturing processes for future product platforms.
7+ years of professional experience in mechanical design of wire harnesses or comparable complex electromechanical systems.
Strong experience with HV and LV electrical systems, preferably within battery, energy storage, automotive, aerospace, industrial, or other highly engineered products.
Advanced proficiency with CATIA, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or comparable 3D CAD platforms.
Experience developing complex harness routing and mechanical packaging within constrained assemblies.
Strong understanding of connectors, cables, terminals, strain relief, shielding, protective sleeving, mounting hardware, and harness retention methods.
Working knowledge of CAN, LIN, Ethernet, EMC considerations, and electrical system interfaces.
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals including vibration, thermal performance, durability, corrosion, materials, and environmental protection.
Experience taking designs from concept and prototype through manufacturing and production.
Strong understanding of design for manufacturability and design for assembly in high-volume production environments.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T.
Demonstrated ability to lead technical decisions and coordinate work across multiple engineering and manufacturing disciplines.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet aggressive development timelines.
Experience with Zuken or another dedicated wire harness design platform.
Experience designing harnesses for battery packs, energy storage systems, electric vehicles, industrial equipment, or other high-voltage applications.
Experience with high-volume manufacturing and production ramp environments.
Experience developing engineering and quality standards for harness systems.
Experience with mechanical, thermal, vibration, or durability simulation.
Familiarity with supplier qualification, component sourcing, and supply chain processes.
Experience with value engineering and product cost reduction initiatives.
Experience applying GD&T to production hardware and tooling.
The strongest candidate is a hands-on mechanical engineer who has owned complex harness designs through the full product lifecycle. You should be comfortable working across engineering and manufacturing organizations, making technical tradeoffs, solving packaging and routing challenges, and translating 3D designs into reliable, manufacturable hardware.
