ROLE SUMMARY
The Intersect Group is seeking a Staff Engineer, Firmware Quality Assurance to lead both manual and automated testing initiatives across a portfolio of embedded Linux based products. This senior level individual contributor will play a critical role in validating firmware quality, expanding automation coverage, and ensuring reliable product performance across complex hardware and networking environments.
This role will partner closely with firmware engineers throughout the software development lifecycle to identify defects, improve testing strategies, and strengthen product quality. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in embedded systems with a passion for automation, process improvement, and technical leadership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, execute, and document comprehensive manual test cases for embedded Linux firmware operating in both user space and kernel space
Validate wireless communication technologies including RF, WiFi, and Bluetooth across multiple device configurations
Test and verify networking functionality involving IPv4, IPv6, ICMP, DHCPv6, TCP/IP, UDP, Ethernet, PPP, and related communication protocols
Develop and automate firmware test cases using Python, Bash, and Robot Framework to increase regression testing coverage
Build and maintain hardware and software test environments that support both manual and automated validation efforts
Monitor nightly regression and CI/CD testing results, investigate failures, and provide detailed defect analysis
Collaborate with firmware engineering teams to review requirements, validate functionality, and improve product quality throughout development
Mentor junior quality assurance engineers while driving improvements in testing methodologies, automation frameworks, and quality standards
KEY REQUIREMENTS
7+ years of experience in firmware quality assurance, embedded systems testing, software development, or related engineering disciplines
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
Hands on experience testing embedded Linux systems across both user space and kernel space environments
Strong knowledge of networking protocols including IPv4, IPv6, ICMP, DHCPv6, TCP/IP, UDP, Ethernet, and PPP
Experience developing automated test solutions using Python, Bash, Robot Framework, or similar scripting technologies
Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, nightly regression testing environments, and automation framework development
Working knowledge of C or C++ for firmware analysis, debugging, and troubleshooting
Experience using Git, Jira, TestRail, or similar version control and test management tools
Familiarity with network analysis and troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark, iPerf, tcpdump, or similar technologies
Strong analytical skills, technical ownership, communication abilities, and a collaborative approach to problem solving
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience testing RF, WiFi, Bluetooth, or other wireless communication technologies
Knowledge of Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing protocols
Experience with embedded security, encryption technologies, and secure communications
Background supporting large scale embedded product development initiatives
Experience improving automated testing strategies across multiple product lines
