At TSI, these opportunities are real. Our engineers work with industry-leading experts both internally and externally. We encourage and enable our engineers to get into the field with customers to better understand their issues and solve their problems. At TSI, you make a difference every day.

Staff Electrical Engineer at TSI

The Staff Electrical Engineer will join the electrical engineering team in the architecture and development of complex hardware and firmware designs for TSls precision instruments, including particle, gas, and flow measurement sensors and devices. This position will assume leadership on ongoing engineering projects, as well as continuation engineering efforts, ensuring successful design, testing, and manufacturing of printed circuit assemblies (PCAs) and embedded microcontroller firmware. The candidate will work with a variety of system features, including measurement and user controls, low power consumption, compact enclosures, and embedded systems. A successful candidate will bring a demonstrated ability to solve complex technical challenges, using standard engineering practices, to design and troubleshoot PCAs with 32-bit microcontrollers, FPGAs, and custom analog and digital circuitry. This position will assume leadership on technical projects and effectively communicate in cross functional teams that span all engineering disciplines, marketing, sales, and production.

What Will You Do?

In order to grow and build a successful career with TSI, you will:

  • Architect electrical system, design circuits, and printed circuit assemblies; write firmware for the embedded system to control and process sensor readings
  • Lead development of printed circuit assemblies, designing circuit to meet technical specification and ensure the product meets electromagnetic compatibility requirements
  • Independently design, simulate, test, and debug moderately complex to complex electrical circuits to ensure compliance with specifications, quality standards, and customer needs
  • Evaluate potential solutions to engineering problems for feasibility, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness
  • Apply problem solving skills to analyze new and unfamiliar engineering problems and review potential solutions with other engineers and/or project leads, when necessary
  • Estimate task duration and resource requirements for project schedules
  • Responsible for providing work direction to individuals or a group of engineers, with respect to the project or tasks, in order to meet project deadlines
  • Design and implement sub-system level test to validate project work
  • Develop solutions to new and unfamiliar engineering problems that integrates into existing product lines and provides a standard approach to future designs
  • Responsible for providing strong documentation and specifications on project work
  • Responsible for bringing the project group to a higher level of engineering skills, coupled with the ability to work cross functionally with manufacturing, marketing, and sales to move a project forward
  • May travel to customer sites to provide customer service support and help resolve problems

What Do You Need?

Required

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of product development, with Electrical Engineering experience from the concept phase through the launch phase, with leadership over the electrical HW and FW portion
  • Board hardware and system design expertise with a track record of taking products from concept to mass production with focus on hardware specification development to drive design and development
  • Embedded HW and SW (C/C++) design with 32-bit microcontrollers
  • Experience in complex and sensitive Analog circuit design, testing and troubleshooting techniques to support precision sensors
  • Experience with low-power DC/DC power supplies and rechargeable battery systems
  • Expertise in industry standards such as USB, PCI Express, memory interfaces, I2C, SPI, Ethernet, and JTAG
  • Expertise in PSpice or equivalent circuit simulation tools
  • Experience with embedded systems debugging (JTAG/UART/Oscilloscopes/Logic Analyzers)
  • Expertise in schematic capture, EMI/EMC and grounding principles, PCB design oversight, low-power analog design, and board-level circuit troubleshooting
  • Experience in verification and validation, test plans/methods development to ensure product reliability and performance targets are met
  • Experience leading and mentoring other engineers
  • Experience with analog-to-digital conversion, digital logic, memory, and signal processing
  • Expertise in translating EMC/CE/UL compliance requirements into design requirements and resolving EMC/Safety issues with third party lab certifications
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, BASH, Perl) to support design automation and daily tasks

Desired

  • Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • OrCAD or Allegro PCB tool experience
  • Experience developing software/firmware for real time operating systems (such as Linux, CE, Free RTOS, among others)
