Electrical Designer — Contract to Hire

Our client is seeking an experienced Staff Electrical Designer for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Atlanta, GA. In this role, you will support a diverse portfolio of projects and clients, contributing to planning, site evaluations, design calculations, reports, specifications, proposals, and construction documentation.

You will collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers to develop accurate electrical designs and deliver projects within scope, budget, and schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Design electrical schematics, grid plan layouts, electrical power and lighting systems, protection and controls, and site and facility electrical systems.

• Develop production drawings, design layouts, and calculations for assignments of substantial variety and complexity.

• Prepare 2D and 3D engineering drawings using established methods, drafting techniques, and company, client, and project standards.

• Size system components, refine rough sketches, and incorporate design changes, redlines, and markups.

• Analyze reports, drawings, and test results to support project planning and design.

• Interpret and apply relevant design codes, specifications, and project requirements.

• Prepare conduit and grounding layouts, equipment and panel wiring diagrams, and relay panel schematics, including associated calculations.

• Review design drawings for quality and accuracy while meeting budgeted hours and deadlines.

• Organize and maintain drawing revisions, plot files, and project documentation.

• Communicate clearly with project teams and support client coordination to resolve design and drawing issues.

• Perform other duties as assigned and comply with company policies and standards.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in drafting technology or a related field and at least 7 years of related experience.

• Associate degree and at least 8 years of related experience.

• High school diploma and at least 9 years of progressive detailing and design experience.

Additional requirements include:

• Advanced proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel.

• Advanced ability to use 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.

• Ability to learn and effectively use new design software.

• Advanced knowledge of electrical design principles, calculations, systems, and practices.

• Understanding of how related engineering disciplines interface with electrical design.

• Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary project team.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.
