Position Summary: 

The Staff Development Coordinator is the clinical expert in evidence-based nursing practice and patient care within a specialty care setting.  The position functions both autonomously and in collaboration with other health care providers to manage, support, and coordinate the care of acute and/or critically ill patients.

Position Requirements: Licensure/Certification/Registration:  Current, active licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Georgia. Education: Graduation from an NLM accredited school of nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.

C:    Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ nursing and clinical education experience.

Special Qualifications: Maintains BLS, ACLS, and PALS (or must obtain PALS or ENPC within 6 months of hire)   Degree of Supervision Required:  Is able to function independently with minimal supervision. 

Oversee clinical staff development in the St. Mary’s Health Care System Emergency Departments.

Collaborate with key stakeholders to design, coordinate, and implement new hire orientation curriculum that meets SMHS learner goals, objectives, and position specific competency requirements.

Assess unit challenges, opportunities, and practice gap impacts to new hires, experienced staff transitioning roles, or interprofessional teams through active collaboration between the learner and the role of Staff Development Coordinator.

Develop actions and processes in clinical, classroom, and/or online environments to address scope of practice through onboarding and orientation, competency management, role development, preceptor training, evidence-based practice, and collaborative partnerships.

Providing leadership in advancing the practice of nursing to achieve quality and cost-effective patient outcomes as well as provide leadership of multidisciplinary groups in designing and implementing innovative alternative solutions that address system problems and/or patient care issues.

Providing leadership in advancing practice of nursing to achieve quality and cost-effective patient outcomes as well as providing leadership of professional education and certification

Facilitate ongoing trauma-specific clinical training (such as TNCC, ATLS, and ATCN) for nursing and ancillary staff.

Provide clinical teaching and supervision and directing patient assignment for new and experienced staff.

Participate in performance evaluation and management including verbal coaching and counseling.
