Description
The Staff Mechanical Engineer will lead the development of new mechanical designs for our 3D visualization and guidance systems for microsurgery, working closely with electrical, optical, software and system engineers as well as product managers. The Staff Mechanical Engineer will interface with internal and external teams to deliver complex designs such as high-magnification optical cameras, robotic assisted positioning systems, and active/passive thermal management systems.
In addition to design and development, the Staff Mechanical Engineer will work with a multidisciplinary marketing and engineering team to turn marketing requirements into actionable engineering requirements. They will interface with internal teams, e.g. Software, Quality, Procurement, Production, and external teams, e.g. suppliers, outsourced Industrial Designers. The successful candidate will also be involved in the transfer of products from development to manufacturing including workflow development, production equipment design and throughput optimization. The role will also require working with project and system engineers to create schedules, help define budgets and derive system/subsystem requirements.

This role owns complete mechanical subsystems and supports both new product development and in‑flight programs, with strong emphasis on design transfer, hands‑on execution, and manufacturability. You will work closely with cross‑functional engineering teams, manufacturing, suppliers, and external partners to deliver robust, compliant, and production‑ready medical devices.

Required Experience
Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent technical experience
5+ years of relevant experience taking products from concept to production
Medical device experience preferred; Aerospace & Defense experience a plus
Demonstrated experience owning designs through production and supporting active programs
Technical Skills
Electromechanical system design and electrical‑mechanical integration
Optical and precision mechanical design experience
Part and subsystem design for manufacturability
Manufacturing processes including:
Injection molding
Sheet metal
CNC machining
Materials selection, surface treatments, and finishing processes
Strong GD&T proficiency and tolerance analysis
Expert use of 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred)
Analysis, Testing & Validation
FEA experience, including thermal analysis
Design testing and validation (V&V)
FMEA experience preferred
Hands‑on prototyping and design verification
Standards & Product Experience
Familiarity with IEC 60601 medical safety standards preferred
Experience with plastic components and single‑device assemblies

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $75.00/hr.
