Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will represent the Friend of the Court in its service to the Family Court and will also act as a Special Assistant Prosecutor for the State of Michigan.

Responsibilities include assisting the FOC Director as needed in developing policies and procedures affecting FOC operations, representing the Friend of the Court in courtroom proceedings including filing and responding to motions involving the FOC caseload, assisting FOC staff by researching and advising of statutes, court rules and federal/state procedures and regulations affecting FOC cases, overseeing certain enforcement actions of the FOC, overseeing the FOC Legal Department, and investigating and responding, per statute, to all grievances filed against the Friend of the Court. This position will also work with the Kent County Prosecutor's Office in coordinating policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Juris Doctorate, membership in the State Bar of Michigan, and four years of progressively responsible experience in domestic relations law. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough working knowledge of the Friend of the Court Act, the Support and Parenting Enforcement Act, the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act, case law, and federal Title IVD regulations. Must be able to interact positively with parties from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
