Title: Staff Accountant -NonprofitDepartment: FinanceReports to: ControllerFLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt_______________________________________________________________________________________Job SummaryThe Staff Accountant assists the Controller and CFO in managing the organization's financial accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, grant cost and allocation accounting, payroll oversight, and audit support. This role ensures compliance with organizational accounting policies, grant requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFinancial Accounting & ReportingPerform month-end close activities, including preparation and review of financial statements prior to grant and fund billingPrepare monthly journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statementsReconcile general bank accounts and payroll bank accounts on a monthly basisMaintain and reconcile monthly general ledger accounts with a high degree of accuracyGrant & Fund AccountingAssist Controller/CFO with development and monitoring of grant and program budgetsTrack, verify, and ensure grant and fund billings are accurate and submitted by required deadlinesPrepare management reports and fund status updates to support grant billing and financial decision-makingPayroll OversightOversee payroll department functions to ensure timely and accurate payroll processingVerify payroll transactions and resolve discrepanciesDetermine and maintain master salary allocation spreadsheets and related accounting entriesAccounts PayableVerify accounts payable transactions and make necessary correctionsMaintain and update AP allocations to ensure proper expense distribution across funds and grantsAudit & ComplianceAssist Controller/CFO with annual fiscal, federal, and grant-related auditsEnsure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controlsOther ResponsibilitiesPerform other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned by the Controller or CFOCore Accounting CompetenciesGeneral ledger management and reconciliationKnowledge & experience with cost allocation accountingNonprofit and grant accounting principlesFinancial statement preparation and analysisPayroll accounting and salary allocationsBudget development and monitoringAudit preparation and compliance supportHigh-level accuracy, attention to detail, and internal controlsQualificationsEducation & ExperienceBachelor's degree in accounting or a related fieldMinimum of three (3) years of accounting experience; nonprofit accounting experience preferredCoursework or practical experience in accounting principles and bookkeepingTechnical SkillsProficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and OutlookExperience with MIP Cloud and other accounting software preferredAbility to use a ten-key calculator by touchProfessional SkillsStrong organizational and time-management skillsExcellent interpersonal, communication, and team-building abilitiesAbility to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitudeExceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracyAdditional RequirementsMust have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and be bondablePhysical Requirements:Ability to bend and lift light objectsAbility to sit for extended periods of time while viewing a computer monitorCapable of hearing and speaking to exchange informationSeeing to read reports and dataAbility to speak English#J-18808-Ljbffr
