    Staff Accountant

    Sacramento, CA

    100% onsite, Full-Time

    Compensation: $68,640–$85,000


    We are partnering with a well-established Sacramento organization seeking a Staff Accountant to join its collaborative accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys a variety of responsibilities, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and wants to contribute to a stable, mission-driven organization.

    The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in general accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations, month-end close, and grant accounting.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Prepare and post journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
    • Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
    • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close.
    • Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules.
    • Monitor and reconcile grant activity, ensuring expenditures are accurately recorded and comply with grant requirements.
    • Assist with grant reporting and maintain supporting documentation for internal and external reporting.
    • Prepare budget-to-actual analyses and financial reports.
    • Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing activity for accuracy.
    • Support annual audits by preparing schedules and responding to audit requests.
    • Assist with budgeting, financial analysis, and special accounting projects.
    • Recommend and implement process improvements to strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls.
    • Collaborate with accounting leadership and cross-functional teams to support day-to-day financial operations.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
    • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
    • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close.
    • Experience with grant accounting and grant compliance is highly desirable.
    • Knowledge of GAAP.
    • Strong Excel skills and experience working with ERP/accounting software.
    • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
    • Detail-oriented with a collaborative, team-first mindset.
