Spread the Word Nevada is seeking a Staff Accountant to become the financial backbone of our mission to inspire a love of reading and increase educational equity for underserved youth in Nevada.In this hands-on role, you'll manage the full accounting cycle for a lean, mission-driven nonprofit team. Your accurate, organized work will directly enable our programs to serve hundreds of youth each year through book donations and literacy initiatives. This is a chance to work at an organization where your financial management skills have a real, visible impact.What You'll DoProcess Accounts Payable (vendor payments, invoice entry, reconciliations) • Manage Accounts Receivable (grant distributions, cash collections, follow-ups) • Support payroll processing and monthly payroll reconciliations • Prepare and verify bank reconciliations (credit card, operating, and grant accounts) • Assist with month-end close and quarterly/annual reconciliation processes • Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger records • Generate financial reports and support external audit activities • Use Excel to organize, analyze, and track financial data • Maintain organized financial records and documentation • Support Director of Finance & Administration with special projects and analysisWhat We're Looking ForREQUIRED:• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field • 2–3 years of hands-on accounting experience (AP/AR, reconciliations, month-end close) • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis) • Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, Abila, NetSuite, or similar) • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy under deadline pressure • Ability to work full-time, on-site in Las Vegas, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. • Legal authorization to work in the United StatesPREFERRED:• Experience with QuickBooks Online (we'll train you if you have other accounting software experience) • Advanced Excel skills (data analysis, process automation, reporting) • Nonprofit accounting experience or willingness to learn nonprofit-specific practices • Experience with audit support and compliance workWhat We ValueOrganized, methodical approach to work - you use systems (checklists, task lists, process documentation) to stay on top of deadlines and maintain quality • Proficiency with Excel - you're comfortable building spreadsheets, using formulas, and creating reports to analyze financial data • Commitment to accuracy - you understand that accounting errors ripple through an organization, and you're meticulous about verification and reconciliation • Collaborative mindset - you work closely with leadership, communicate proactively about issues, and contribute to a supportive team environment • Growth orientation - you're willing to learn new accounting software, deepen your nonprofit knowledge, and take on new responsibilities as the organization grows • Mission alignment - you care about the work we do and understand how your role supports our mission to increase educational equity for underserved youthCompensation & Benefits• Competitive salary: $52,000–$58,000 per year (depending on experience) • 401(k) retirement plan with 4% employer match • Health insurance • Dental insurance • Vision insurance • Volunteer Life Insurance • 11 paid holidays • Paid Time Off (PTO)Why Join STWN?Make a Real Impact: Your work directly enables programs that serve hundreds of youth annually through book donations and literacy support.
