    Location: Downtown Austin, TX (in-office)

    We’re looking for an experienced, detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. Reporting directly to the Senior Accounting Manager, this role is responsible for key day-to-day accounting activities and will play an important role in maintaining accurate, timely financial records.

    We’re a small, fast-moving CPG company, which means this is a broad and hands-on position. You’ll work across general ledger accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, AP and AR, inventory and COGS, revenue and payment reconciliation, and financial reporting.

    Our accounting team is lean, so we’re looking for someone who takes ownership, enjoys solving problems, and is comfortable digging into a discrepancy until they understand exactly what happened and how to fix it.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    General Accounting & Month-End Close

    • Own assigned components of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close

    • ​Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, reclasses, and adjustments

    • Prepare balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations

    • Maintain accurate supporting schedules and documentation

    • Research and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner

    • Support the Senior Accounting Manager in completing an accurate and timely monthly close

    • Ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in the appropriate accounting period

    • Assist with audit, tax, and other year-end requirements

    Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

    • Manage assigned AP and AR responsibilities​
    • Review invoices for appropriate coding, documentation, and approvals
    • Process and reconcile vendor payments
    • Apply and reconcile customer payments
    • Monitor receivables and assist with collections and aging
    • Research credits, deductions, chargebacks, and payment discrepancies
    • Maintain accurate vendor and customer accounting records

    Revenue & Cash Reconciliation

    • Reconcile revenue and payments across multiple sales channels​
    • Complete bank, credit card, merchant processor, and cash reconciliations
    • Reconcile transactions between sales platforms, payment processors, and the general ledger
    • Research discrepancies involving orders, invoices, payments, fees, refunds, discounts, and deposits
    • Work with internal teams to resolve discrepancies between accounting and operational systems

    Inventory & COGS

    • Perform inventory accounting and monthly reconciliations
    • Support COGS calculations and related month-end entries
    • Reconcile inventory activity between the ERP and operational records
    • Investigate inventory and cost variances
    • Support physical inventory counts and related reconciliations
    • Partner with Supply Chain and Operations to ensure inventory transactions and costs are accurately captured
    • Maintain inventory, COGS, and related balance sheet schedules

    Reporting & Analysis

    • Prepare recurring accounting reports and supporting schedules
    • Assist with budget-to-actual and variance analysisIdentify unusual transactions, trends, or variances and investigate as needed
    • Provide accurate accounting information to the Senior Accounting Manager for financial reporting
    • Support budgeting and forecasting with accounting data as needed

    Process Improvement & Controls

    • Identify opportunities to simplify, automate, and strengthen accounting processes

    • Maintain clear documentation of accounting proceduresFollow and support established internal controls

    • Identify recurring reconciliation issues and help address the underlying cause

    • Help improve the flow of information between Accounting, Sales, eCommerce, Supply Chain, and Operations

    • Take ownership of projects and accounting needs that arise in a small-company environment

    QUALIFICATIONS

    REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field2+ years of progressive accounting experience
    • Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual-based accounting
    • Hands-on experience with month-end close, journal entries, and general ledger accounting
    • Strong reconciliation skills
    • Experience with AP and AR
    • Strong Excel and Google Sheets skills
    • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
    • Comfortable independently researching discrepancies and recommending solutions
    • Collaborative and willing to jump in where needed within a lean accounting team
    • Ability to work in-office in downtown Austin up to 5 days a week. 

    PREFERRED:

    • CPG, food and beverage, manufacturing, or other inventory-based accounting experience
    • NetSuite experience
    • Experience with inventory and COGS accounting
    • Experience reconciling high-volume transactions across multiple systems
    • Experience with Shopify, Amazon, Stripe, Faire, or similar sales and payment platforms
    • Experience with retailer and distributor deductions and chargebacks
    • CPA or CPA candidate is a plus, but not required

    WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

    You become a trusted right hand to the Senior Accounting Manager and take full ownership of your areas of responsibility.

    Your reconciliations are accurate and current, your portion of month-end close happens on time, and you understand the transactions behind the numbers rather than simply processing them. When something doesn't reconcile, you investigate it, identify the cause, and follow it through to resolution.

    You also understand what it means to work on a lean accounting team. You're willing to jump in, solve problems, improve processes, and help keep the accounting function running smoothly.
