    Purpose

    The Retail Operations Manager oversees the strategy and execution of the Retail Practice within Monarch. This person is accountable for performance, scalability, and efficiency while ensuring consistent customer experience, maximizing team productivity, and aligning operations with financial and strategic company objectives.     Drive Operational Efficiency and Scalability

    The Retail Operations Manager is accountable for continuously improving the efficiency and scalability of retail operations. This includes identifying operational bottlenecks, leveraging technology to streamline store workflows, and embedding accountability around performance KPIs. You lead efforts to eliminate waste, reduce downtime, and implement systems that improve store operations, merchandising execution, and customer service consistency.

    Manage Capacity and Workforce Optimization

    The Retail Operations Manager manages staffing strategy and workforce alignment to meet fluctuating customer demand while preserving employee engagement and work-life balance. This involves analyzing store traffic patterns, forecasting demand, and ensuring the right associates are scheduled at the right times. You collaborate across locations to balance staffing needs and maximize productivity.

    Strengthen Customer Relationships and Store Performance

    In this role, you are the operational leader responsible for ensuring a consistently excellent customer experience. You monitor store performance, customer satisfaction, and operational standards while resolving issues proactively. You collaborate with sales and marketing teams to drive promotions, product launches, and revenue growth while ensuring store execution aligns with company goals.

    Build and Develop High-Performing Retail Teams

    The Retail Operations Manager oversees all aspects of people leadership, including hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management for retail teams. You follow Monarch recruiting and onboarding practices to deliver a strong employee experience. You ensure each team member has clear expectations, measurable goals, and developmental opportunities aligned with career growth. You promote a culture of coaching, accountability, and service excellence.

    Oversee Operational Performance & Profitability

    In this role, you are responsible for understanding the financial health of the Retail Practice. This includes reviewing P&L performance and budget alignment monthly to ensure operations meet revenue and margin targets. You also oversee store initiatives, operational projects, and improvement programs to ensure successful implementation and measurable outcomes.

    Operational Efficiency and Scalability
    • Optimize inventory execution workflows: Continuously evaluate how inventory counts are planned and executed across retail client locations to improve speed, accuracy, and consistency.
    • Reduce count errors and rework: Implement processes, training, and validation checks that minimize inventory discrepancies and recounts.
    • Implement inventory technology: Introduce and improve the use of scanners, mobile counting systems, and inventory platforms that streamline counting and reporting.
    • Monitor operational KPIs: Track metrics such as inventory accuracy, counts completed per hour, error rates, and job completion times.
    • Build performance dashboards: Create scorecards and reporting tools that provide visibility into team performance and operational efficiency.
    • Standardize inventory procedures: Document and enforce consistent counting methodologies, preparation steps, and reporting standards across all client engagements.
    • Lead continuous improvement: Regularly review inventory execution results and implement process improvements to increase productivity and service quality.
    Workforce Optimization
    • Plan inventory staffing: Forecast labor needs based on client inventory schedules, store sizes, and complexity of counts.
    • Coordinate inventory teams: Assign team leaders and inventory associates to client sites based on skill level, availability, and travel requirements.
    • Optimize scheduling: Build schedules that ensure the right number of counters are present at the right time to complete inventories efficiently.
    • Balance workloads: Distribute inventory assignments across teams to maintain productivity while avoiding burnout.
    • Review labor productivity: Evaluate counts per hour, completion times, and labor utilization to continuously improve staffing efficiency.
    Client Experience and Service Delivery
    • Deliver accurate inventories: Ensure every client inventory is completed with a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
    • Prepare clients for inventory: Communicate expectations, timelines, and preparation requirements so stores are ready for counting.
    • Lead inventory kickoff meetings: Align with store leadership before each count to confirm scope, timing, and operational needs.
    • Provide post-inventory reporting: Deliver clear summaries of inventory results, discrepancies, and insights that help clients improve store operations.
    • Resolve issues quickly: Address counting discrepancies, operational disruptions, or client concerns promptly.
    • Support client growth: Identify opportunities to expand inventory services across additional locations or divisions.
    Team Development and Performance
    • Hire and develop inventory leaders: Recruit and train team leaders who can manage inventory crews and client relationships effectively.
    • Train inventory associates: Ensure team members understand counting procedures, equipment usage, and accuracy expectations.
    • Conduct regular team check-ins: Provide coaching and feedback to improve performance and engagement.
    • Facilitate performance reviews: Evaluate team members based on productivity, accuracy, leadership, and client feedback.
    • Identify high performers: Develop strong team members into future inventory leaders or operations supervisors.
    Operational Performance & Profitability
    • Review inventory project profitability: Analyze labor costs, travel expenses, and job margins to ensure inventories are profitable.
    • Manage operational budgets: Partner with finance to maintain cost discipline while supporting operational growth.
    • Oversee inventory execution: Ensure inventories are completed on time, within scope, and with high accuracy.
    • Define operational milestones: Establish checkpoints for preparation, execution, and reporting for each inventory engagement.
    • Assess operational risks: Identify potential disruptions such as staffing shortages or scheduling conflicts and implement mitigation plans.
    • Capture lessons learned: Document insights from completed inventories to continuously improve execution across future engagements

    Qualifications

    • 5-7 years of experience leading operations or service delivery teams 
    • Proven success scaling multi-location or field service operations 
    • Experience managing P&Ls and driving profitability 
    • Strong project management and resource planning skills 
    • Excellent communicator who can influence across teams and levels 
    • Hands-on experience with scheduling, logistics, or field operations systems 
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred, relevant industry certifications a plus 
    • Comfortable with data analysis and KPI reporting 
    • Able to travel as needed for client or team meetings 
    • Willing to take a background check 
    • Able to use reliable transportation to get to and from work
