Florida State University's College of Medicine has been awarded more than $19 million through the Rural Health Transformation Program to strengthen healthcare access and outcomes in rural Florida. The funding will support six new projects focused on critical needs including behavioral health, preventive care, food insecurity, telehealth, at-home care and healthcare workforce development. Through partnerships with communities and healthcare organizations across Northwest and Southwest Florida, FSU is working to bring innovative, practical solutions directly to rural communities and help close longstanding gaps in care.

Responsibilities

SSTRIDE Program Assistant - Rural Health Transformation Program, Workforce Development Pathway 2. Duties include:

• Assist the Program Coordinator with Tier 1 workforce programming for students in grades 8 - 12, including instruction of the SSTRIDE Workforce Development curriculum at Immokalee Middle School and High School.
• Coordinate Tier 2 workforce development activities, including student selection, communication, scheduling, documentation, follow-up, and support of program expectations.
• Establish professional relationships with students and support engagement and participation.
• Coordinate student schedules, training, certifications, and records, including CPR/First Aid/AED, HIPAA, Mental Health First Aid, Stop the Bleed, and other workforce preparation activities.
• Support community health capstone projects, including research, preparation, presentations, and related requirements.
• Coordinate mentoring activities with healthcare professionals and pre-health/pre-med mentors.
• Coordinate clinical apprenticeship schedules, documentation, transportation, attendance, communication, and student support.
• Address student concerns, collect evaluations and feedback, document certifications, apprenticeship hours, and outcomes.
• Serve as an instructor/facilitator when needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/equivalent, or an Associates degree/some college.
• Must have a valid Florida drivers license and reliable transportation. The position requires regular travel between program locations and occasional travel to community or clinical partner sites.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current college student, recent college graduate, graduate student, or individual taking a gap year prior to professional or graduate education.
• Experience in a youth development, education, mentoring, or workforce development program with middle or high school students.
• Experience as a paraprofessional, instructional aide, teaching assistant, tutor, mentor, or similar school-based role.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills, particularly Spanish or Haitian Creole.
• Experience working with middle school, high school, college, or young adult populations; or experience in a healthcare, education, youth development, workforce development, or related setting.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, educators, healthcare professionals, and program partners. Excellent written, problem-solving, and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while following direction from program leadership; manage multiple tasks, schedules, and deadlines; maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries; and work effectively as part of a team.
• Experience working with applicable computer applications, such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint), and basic computer functions.

Position At A Glance: This is a hands-on, student-facing position for someone who enjoys working with teens or has a passion for healthcare. The SSTRIDE Program Assistant for Workforce Development will spend most of their time in Immokalee Middle School and High School working directly with students and supporting the implementation of SSTRIDEs Workforce Development Pathway. The position will be assisting with programming for approximately 100 students, while taking a small group of 5 - 15 of those students to implement an intensive small group workforce development research capstone and apprenticeship experience. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, proactive, comfortable working with adolescents, interested in healthcare, and able to build relationships while managing the details that keep a complex student program running smoothly. The position will be based across the FSU College of Medicine Immokalee Campus, Immokalee Middle School and Immokalee High School, providing an important day-to-day presence within the SSTRIDE program and the Immokalee school community.

Anticipated Salary Range

$20 - $32 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.

This position will be supporting Workforce Development initiative Pathway 2 in the Southwest region, which is defined as Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Lee, Manatee, Okeechobee, and Sarasota on the Rural Health Transformation Program Map.

This is a part-time, 12 month position. Not to exceed 20 hours/week.
