Want to transform how Alexa makes every day life easier and more enjoyable for customers? The Alexa Daily Essentials and Connections Design team is seeking a Senior User Experience Designer to create experiences that leverage the power of Alexa across Echo devices, Alexa mobile app, Alexa.com, and other device surfaces. This role will be focused on designing how Alexa can help customers stay connected with friends and family through calling, messaging, or sharing content. You may also work on features to improve daily productivity like calendar, alarms, timers, reminders, lists, or file upload. You will work side-by-side with conversation designers, user researchers, product, and engineering to identify, define, and implement solutions that raise the bar on the Alexa customer experience. You must excel at communicating your designs effectively to the larger team and driving that vision into solid design deliverables. We're looking for people who are passionate about innovating on behalf of customers, demonstrate a high degree of ownership, and want to have fun while they make history.

Key job responsibilities

  • Create world-class, user-centered designs through consideration of market research, customer needs, business requirements, and usability study findings.
  • Demonstrate leadership in driving design processes into the organization that help refine strategy.
  • Translate business requirements into use cases and high-level customer experience requirements.
  • Design the architecture, interface, and interaction flow of touch screens, voice experiences, mobile applications, and web screens.
  • Develop conceptual diagrams, wireframes, visual mockups, and prototypes
  • Develop and maintain detailed user-interface specifications
  • Present design work to the user experience team, product team, and leadership for review and feedback.
  • Work with our usability and data science teams to assess and optimize new and existing features.
  • Develop high level, long-term strategy for Alexa Daily Essentials and Connections products.
  • Collaborate with other design team members on Alexa Domain experiences, frameworks, process, and best practices.

About the Company

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
