Role OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled Sr. UI/UX Developer / Architect to lead the setup, development, and maintenance of enterprise design systems from scratch while ensuring strict adherence to WCAG 2.1 (up to AAA) accessibility standards. This role focuses on developing scalable, reusable front-end components using HTML, SASS, and Angular, documenting UI patterns in Storybook, and collaborating across engineering teams to establish accessibility and design system best practices.
Key ResponsibilitiesBuild, document, and maintain scalable design systems and reusable component libraries utilizing frameworks such as the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS).
Develop high-level wrapper components using HTML, SASS, and Angular to maintain UI consistency and accessibility across web applications.
Enforce WCAG 2.1/AAA compliance through semantic HTML, ARIA roles, and standardized accessibility testing workflows.
Utilize Storybook for component development, comprehensive documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
Partner with and mentor developers to drive organization-wide adherence to UX standards and accessibility guidelines.
Participate in code reviews, accessibility audits, and interface design discussions.
5+ years of professional front-end development experience.
Demonstrated experience building, integrating, and setting up enterprise design systems from scratch.
In-depth knowledge of WCAG 2.1/AAA standards, ARIA roles, semantic HTML, and accessibility testing tools.
Hands-on proficiency with HTML, SASS, and Angular.
Strong experience using Storybook for component documentation and development workflows.
Solid understanding of user experience (UX) principles and accessible interface design.
Experience working with USWDS or equivalent enterprise design systems.
Clear and effective technical communication skills.
Familiarity with .NET, MVC, and SQL to support seamless front-end integration and backend collaboration.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid schedule requiring onsite presence in Des Moines, IA.
