    Sr. Estimator

    Location: Phoenix, Arizona (Onsite)

    Role Overview

    The Senior Estimator is responsible for developing accurate cost estimates for electric utility Transmission and Distribution (T&D) projects, including substation, overhead and underground distribution, transmission line, cable replacement, and capital improvement programs. This role works closely with engineering, project management, construction, and procurement teams to prepare detailed estimates supporting project planning, budgeting, and execution. The ideal candidate has utility construction estimating experience and advanced proficiency with InEight Estimating software.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed cost estimates for T&D capital and maintenance projects.
    • Utilize InEight Estimating to create, maintain, and update project estimates, databases, and cost models.
    • Analyze engineering drawings, specifications, work packages, and scope documents to determine labor, equipment, material, and contractor costs.
    • Prepare quantity takeoffs for transmission, distribution, underground, and substation projects.
    • Support project budgeting, forecasting, change order evaluations, and cost analysis.
    • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, construction teams, and procurement personnel to validate project scope and estimate assumptions.
    • Develop and maintain estimating templates, unit rates, and historical cost databases.
    • Perform risk analysis and identify cost drivers affecting project execution.
    • Review contractor bids and provide comparative cost analysis and recommendations.
    • Participate in project reviews and estimate validation meetings.
    • Maintain estimating documentation and ensure compliance with company standards and procedures.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
    • 5+ years of estimating experience supporting electric utility, transmission, distribution, substation, or infrastructure projects.
    • Advanced experience using InEight Estimating software.
    • Experience preparing detailed labor, equipment, material, and contractor cost estimates.
    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience supporting electric utility Transmission & Distribution programs.
    • Experience with underground cable, overhead distribution, transmission line, or substation construction projects.
    • Knowledge of utility construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
    • Experience with cost forecasting, earned value reporting, and project controls.
    • Familiarity with Primavera P6, or other utility project management systems.
