Summary

Responsible for developing tooling concepts and specifications, managing the tooling design and build process, and providing engineering and tooling support to the product development teams, CFT's and manufacturing plants as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks and activities according to all safety requirements with consideration for

ergonomic factors and the environment

  • Design concepts and develop specifications for prototype and production tooling
  • Participate and support costing and RFQ process with Cost, Purchasing and program

Management Departments including tooling matrix responsibility

  • Track the progress of tooling programs and manage the tooling design and build process
  • Assume responsibility for program tool costs and budgets working with program management
  • Support management of engineering changes with program management and assist in

driving continuous improvements with all aspects of tooling including suppliers

  • Attend product development and CFT meetings and interface/support Product and

Manufacturing Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing and CBU's in regards to

tooling requirements

  • Ensure compliance with all related TS16949, QS 9000 and ISO 14001 procedures and

requirements

  • Willing and able to travel as required to manufacturing plants and tool shops to support

assigned programs

  • Conduct business in a professional manner and follow all company policies and procedures
  • Share best practices and conduct training when required to transfer knowledge
  • Analyze tool specifications and understand tooling standards and best practices.
  • Set up and operate machining tools.
  • Conduct test runs on tooling to confirm proper operation.
  • Possess welding skills: MIG, TIG, ARC, Pulse, etc.
  • Working knowledge of crane operation, tool loading, unloading, and flipping.
  • Experienced using cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists hand tools.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or related technical degree preferred but not necessary.
  • Must be familiar with automotive related component drawings and math data files
  • Experience with compression molding, tool design, cost estimation and tool building desired
  • Must have a solid understanding of the manufacturing process and hands-on experience
  • Project management experience and compression molding experience desired

Language Ability

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Ability to present information to groups of employees or management

Math and Technical Ability

  • Strong math, engineering, blueprint, technical documentation and CAD skills are required to handle calculations and problem solving

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define and solve problems and draw valid conclusions from data and testing
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions, blueprints, and abstract and concrete variables

Computer Skills

  • MS Office: Word, Excel, Internet software, Outlook, AutoCAD
