    Description

As a Technician in Applied Power Division, you’ll fabricate, assemble, integrate, and troubleshoot custom hardware for critical R&D projects, working directly with machinists and engineers in a hands-on lab environment. Ability to obtain a security clearance is required. Join our team and you will receive an add'l $500 in your first paycheck (minus applicable taxes).

    Objectives of this Role:
    • Fabricate, weld, assemble, and support complex mechanical assemblies and systems that directly contribute to successful delivery of high-impact R&D projects.
    • Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to assemble, integrate, and test custom mechanical systems for internal and external clients.
    • Troubleshoot and improve mechanical assemblies and test setups, helping ensure reliable, safe operation of critical experimental hardware.
    • Develop and strengthen practical mechanical skills through hands-on work with unique components and prototype systems.
    Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
    • Weld components according to specifications, confirm materials, weld types, and measurements, visually inspect for defects (cracks, porosity, undercut)
    • Select proper welding process (MIG, TIG, Stick, etc.) Choose correct electrodes/wire, shielding gas, and settings.
    • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, read blueprints, weld symbols, work orders, and schematics, and assembly procedures to correctly build, align, and adjust complex mechanical assemblies.
    • Fabricate mechanical components and subassemblies into complete systems using hand tools, power tools, and precision hardware according to drawings and work instructions.
    • Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and technicians to refine designs, resolve assembly challenges, and ensure systems meet performance and safety requirements.
    Requirements:
    • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Welding certification preferred
    • 2-10 years: Experience as mechanical technician, fabricator, or similar hands-on role. Experience assembling mechanical components and systems using hand/power tools, fasteners, and precision hardware, with emphasis on quality and reliability.
    • Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings, exploded views, basic schematics, and written work instructions, and use them to correctly build, troubleshoot, and modify mechanical assemblies in a shop or R&D environment.
    • Practical welding experience with MIG, TIG, and stick processes, including preparation, fit-up, and finishing.
    • Produce structurally sound welds with good workmanship and attention to safety and quality standards.
    • Strong safety mindset, including proper PPE and adherence to shop procedures; organized, clean work practices.
    • Effective communication and teamwork with machinists, engineers, and other technicians in a collaborative R&D environment.
    • A valid/clear driver's license is required.

    • Mechanical Engineering-Improving safety, reliability, efficiency and life of new or existing mechanical components or systems.
    • Powertrain Engineering-Designing and developing vehicle and engine components to achieve performance and emissions goals.
    • Space Science & Engineering-Developing and managing advanced scientific payloads aboard satellites and sounding rockets.
