    Description

AWS Building Connectivity Engineering owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of the internal networks that Amazonians rely on to access their tools and achieve connectivity for internal uses within Data Center environments. We are looking for a Technical Program Manager to help transition this organization into a software-first mindset and reality as we develop new tools to replace old processes.

You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

In this role, you will be responsible for the collaboration, planning, oversight and execution of major software migrations from a broad array of older tools and processes. You will work with Network Development Engineers and other stakeholders to understand and map their business requirements that need to be turned to code, and be the expert on the ecosystem and interplay between the different elements of the AWS Networking ecosystem of teams, services, and networks. You"ll discover risks to the plan, and own the elimination of those risks by working to ensure the right people are always working on the right things and we are never surprised by changing circumstances and hidden requirements. You will communicate with our stakeholders about the way things are changing, making sure that the changes coming through are the right ones to meet their needs, and will really solve their problems, building trust in our work and deepening the important relationships we have with our stakeholders both inside and outside of our organization. Our network is critical to all AWS infrastructure operations and scaling. This is an opportunity to work on advanced network technologies and make a meaningful impact on millions of customers worldwide.

The ideal candidate will require proven technical project management, critical thinking and problem solving skills. The candidate should be open to new challenges, extremely good at multi-tasking, innovative, self-directed and a great team player.

Candidates should drive continuous process improvement, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional operational and software engineering teams to solve problems and implement new solutions.

You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards deliverables for network operations. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

If you like to work with new technologies and optimize existing technology, and have experience participating in network/systems support for a large-scale enterprise or a service provider, we encourage you to apply! Your work will play a key role in driving the stability and sustainability of next-generation networking solutions.

    Key job responsibilities

    • You'll drive both network hardware and software programs to meet the ever-growing customer demand.
    • You'll manage competing cross-organizational projects/programs on a global scale.
    • You'll interact cross-team Network Managers, cross-team Technical Program Managers, Engineers, and Data Center Technicians and senior management.
    • You will run meetings, create and maintain timelines, and keep large, diverse groups informed of progress and obstacles.
    • You'll work with engineers to develop detailed and creative solutions to complex problems, while keeping a watchful-eye on timelines and costs.
    • You'll drive simplification efforts in engineering and project/program management, and architectures to unblock innovation.
    • You'll partner with multiple teams across various locations to ensure priorities are agreed and outcomes are delivered.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
