The full salary range for this position is $100,100.00 to $187,500.00/yr.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:
Responsible for management of the Custodial Services group for Facilities Management which provides cleaning services for approximately 119 buildings encompassing 3,500,000+ cleanable square feet; these spaces include offices, classrooms, lecture halls, and laboratories. Oversees the hiring, evaluation, and discipline of all Custodial staff. Ensures compliance with safety, employee and labor relations, and department regulations. Meets with campus stakeholders to discuss custodial services and to improve campus relations. Provides leadership, direction, support, and supervision to four Principal Supervisors Facilities Management and four Lead Laborers in the Day Crew. Routinely works with Principal Custodial Supervisors to conduct quality control reports to ensure custodial standards are being met. Personally meets with building stakeholders and department representatives as needed to resolve service complaints, schedule special cleaning activities, or resolve special problems. Has responsibility for supplies purchasing and inventory control, cost containment, and evaluation of trial supplies. Coordinates all Custodial safety training with Environmental Health & Safety staff and outside safety trainers. Assists in ensuring all staff members are up-to-date on department and University of California required trainings. Takes a lead role in selecting materials and institutionalizing practices that minimize employee and building occupant exposure to toxic materials and minimizes chemical burden to the environment. Develops and implements cleaning standards. Continually evaluates custodial equipment and procedures to minimize injuries. Takes an active role in increasing the volume of recycled materials from all buildings served by the Custodial Division. As new buildings come on line, assesses cleaning strategies and formulates route assignments to maintain facilities at the desired level and within workload constraints per the current collective bargaining agreement. Oversees and manages custodial work orders in a customer relationship management system to ensure work is completed as requested and on time.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
60% Operations Management & Administration - Manages Principal Custodial Supervisors who oversee the delivery of custodial services in 4.1 million square feet of state supported building space. Ensures compliance with safety, employee and labor relations, and department regulations. Meets regularly with campus stakeholders to discuss facilities custodial services. Manages logistics of a custodial operation with +125 staff to ensure that all service functions operate smoothly including supply inventory, supply distribution across the campus area in a timely manner, custodial equipment repair and replacement, custodial vehicle maintenance and cleanliness, and rapid response to emergencies of any sort on campus that involve custodial staff or equipment. Works with Custodial Supervisors to organize route cleaning. Works with Custodial Supervisors to schedule cleaning and related maintenance projects such as floor work (carpets and hard floors), furniture cleaning, furniture removal/replacement, event custodial services, and detailed cleaning efforts. Responsible for custodial product and equipment identification and procurement. Develops, promotes, and adheres to safety rules, standards, or techniques as an integral part of business. Maintains cordial and professional relationships, including in-person meetings and communication via email and telephone with campus clientele to provide ongoing, positive experiences for Facilities Management's customer base. Develops, implements, and reviews custodial quality control reports with Custodial Supervisors, and utilizes data to ensure high quality services are provided. Manages custodial related work orders through the department's customer relationship management software, currently WebTMA. Ensures that work orders are addressed in an effective, detailed, and timely manner. Works with Associate Director of Custodial & Landscaping Services to resolve custodial emergencies in a safe manner that protects not only the interests of the University but also the safety of the University community: students, staff, and faculty. Works with lab personnel, EH&S, and laboratory staff to develop bio-safety work procedures. Functions as an integral part of Facilities Management team to ensure campus security through correct and timely building lockup and unlock seven days a week. Monitors staff workload, individual route size, zone size, and works with Principal Supervisors to adjust as necessary to maintain reasonable workload across a variety of space types and use intensities on campus (from classrooms to high tech environments). Ensures custodial practices align with UC Sustainability policies regarding 'green' cleaning, LEED, and waste diversion, including recycling and composting.
35% Supervision and Personnel Management - Provides leadership to Principal Supervisors in day to day operations and is available for consultation as needed. Provides guidance in organizing and supervising routine custodial work as well as projects. Provides leadership in navigating a represented workforce through the interpretation and application of bargaining agreement provisions which includes progressive discipline. In conjunction with the Principal Supervisors, responsible for staff development and training. Analyzes work performance to identify areas where training needs to be developed or enhanced and provides relevant educational opportunities for all staff to assure the development of the competencies required of staff to perform their responsibilities most effectively. Analyzes and promotes professional development opportunities for all custodial staff in accordance with department and campus guidelines.
5% Other Duties - Participates as an essential member of a response team for campus and is an after-hours emergency responder.
