Job Description
Sr. Storage and Infrastructure Engineer
Data Resilience and Recovery | Block, File and Object Storage, Data Protection, and Virtualization
Job Scope
As a Sr. Storage and Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for the reliability, availability, security, and scalability of the storage, data protection, and virtualization platforms that underpin the Data Resilience and Recovery environment. You will design, build, and operate block, NFS/file, and S3/object storage, enterprise backup and cyber-recovery platforms, and the VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and server infrastructure that host mission-critical and protected applications.
You will work closely with network, security, and operations teams to deliver a highly available, isolated, and recoverable platform, and will play a key role in automating processes and building tooling that improves operational efficiency and recovery outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain highly available, scalable, and secure storage infrastructure across block (Dell PowerMax, Pure Storage), NFS/file (Dell PowerScale Isilon, Pure), and S3/object (MinIO, Pure) platforms.
- Design, deploy, and operate VMware VCF (vSphere, vSAN, NSX, SDDC Manager, Aria) including lifecycle management, upgrades, and capacity.
- Deploy and maintain Dell and Cisco server infrastructure, including firmware, lifecycle, and hardware refresh.
- Plan and execute storage, backup, and virtualization upgrades and migrations with minimal disruption.
- Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools (Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, VictoriaMetrics, Splunk) used to track platform health, performance, and capacity.
- Engineer data protection platforms, including Rubrik, Cohesity, and Veritas NetBackup: policy design, replication, immutability, and recovery workflows.
- Manage and optimize replication and snapshot technologies (e.g., SRDF, SnapVX) to meet RPO/RTO objectives for mission-critical and protected applications.
- Automate provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle tasks using Ansible/AWX/AAP, Python, and Bash; use NetBox and MAAS as sources of truth and for bare-metal provisioning.
- Conduct regular performance testing, capacity planning, and forecasting for storage and compute growth.
- Develop and test disaster recovery and cyber-recovery plans, and validate recoverability on a recurring basis.
- Participate in incident, problem, and change management in alignment with Charter Incident and Change Management policies; provide on-call support as required.
- Maintain the isolation and security posture of the Data Resilience and Recovery environment, including data diode and controlled-ingress workflows, and ensure changes do not break isolation.
- Maintain runbooks, architecture documentation, and standards; mentor junior engineers and lead technical programs.
Basic/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, and/or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in storage, systems, or site reliability engineering with enterprise block, file, and object platforms, including Dell PowerMax, Dell PowerScale (Isilon), and Pure Storage.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience with enterprise data protection platforms such as Rubrik, Cohesity, and Veritas NetBackup.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience designing and operating VMware virtualization, including VCF/vSphere, on Dell and Cisco server hardware.
- Hands-on experience with NFS and S3/object storage (e.g., MinIO, Pure FlashBlade).
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience with infrastructure as code and automation tools such as Ansible (AWX/AAP) or Terraform.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools such as Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience scripting or developing with Python or Bash.
Additional Job Requirements
- Knowledge of SAN fabrics, IP networking, Kubernetes, Git, Linux and Windows administration, and data center operations.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks and to work under pressure with strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and lead technical teams and programs.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of FCC compliance reports and other applicable rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of cable television or related technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering role.
- Experience with isolated, air-gapped, or cyber-recovery vault environments and data diode architectures.
- Experience with MAAS, NetBox, and Palo Alto or Cisco network integration.
- Experience with Dell and Cisco rack-mount server platforms.
- Certifications in virtualization (VCP/VCAP), storage (Dell, Pure), data protection (Rubrik, Cohesity, NetBackup), Kubernetes, or networking.
