Overview 

Synaptics is looking for a Sr. Staff Field Applications Engineer with experience in the Wireless Connectivity domain to join our dynamic and growing organization. As a technical expert, you will play a critical role in helping customers make informed decisions about Synaptics’ products or solutions, and providing technical guidance, support, and solutions to ensure that customers can successfully integrate and utilize the Synaptics’ technology to meet their specific needs. This position reports to the Director, Field Applications Engineering. 

The typical base pay range for this position is USD $146,000 - $229,900 per year. Individual pay is determined by many factors including work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual performance bonus, equity, and other benefits. Note that compensation listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits. 

Responsibilities & Competencies 

Job Duties 

• Partner closely with Sales and Business Units to help promote our Compute and Connectivity solutions to customers
• Provide technical training sessions for customers on our products with emphasis on the MCU Processor components
• Conduct design workshops with customers to enable them to port their applications to our Processors 
• Work with Customers to port and integrate drivers into their platforms and system integration and design
• Manage technical issues in close coordination with the BU and drive them to resolution
• Troubleshoot issues onsite at customer
• Develop in-depth expertise in the company's products and stay abreast of the latest developments and features in the processors and Wireless space
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with key customers
• Gather customer feedback on the company's products, features, and performance, and share this information with internal teams for product improvement

Competencies 

• Broad knowledge of the Embedded Product development lifecycle including the various stages 
• Knowledge of MCU development environments (freeRTOS and Zephyr) and tools for building, flashing and debugging multi-core MCU platforms 
• Knowledge of Yocto Linux based embedded systems as well as common interfaces (Display, GPU, Video encode/decode) 
• Knowledge of basics of RF and understanding of RF transmitter, receiver architecture 
• Familiarity with Host Systems based on Linux as well as freeRTOS, with focus on driver and reference application porting to these platforms 
• Proactive, self-starter, able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Well organized with strong attention to detail; proactively ensures work is accurate
• Strong troubleshooting, analysis, and problem-solving skills
• Effective written, verbal and presentation skills
• Resourceful and able to connect issues to the larger product picture 
• Able to take a system view of projects and look for opportunities for all Synaptics products 
• Ability to work within a diverse, multi-cultural, global team 

Qualifications 

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent 
• 12+ years of field application experience 
• Experience of Wireless communications systems, both hardware and software 
• Experience working with automation/scripting tools like Python/Perl/Shell is preferred
• Experience working directly with tier1 and OEM customers 
• Experience with Touch and Display controllers will be a significant plus 
• Must be able to work from the Synaptics San Jose office
• Frequent travel up to 20% to customer sites or industry events required
