Arcfield is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to lead the design, development, integration, and sustainment of mission-critical software solutions in support of NSWC Crane programs. In this role, you will use advanced software engineering practices to transform system and user requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable software architectures. Working closely with cross-functional teams—including hardware, systems, cybersecurity, and test organizations—you will ensure that software capabilities meet stringent reliability, performance, and security standards required for mission success.  The ideal candidate possesses strong technical leadership capabilities, a deep understanding of modern software development practices, and proven experience delivering software solutions in regulated and complex DoD/Navy environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, implementation, and integration of mission-critical software systems that meet operational requirements and align with DoD/Navy standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including hardware engineering, systems engineering, cybersecurity, and test organizations—to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Use Agile methodologies, CI/CD workflows, and DevSecOps practices to deliver secure and reliable software solutions.
  • Develop APIs, manage data integration processes, and design scalable, maintainable software architectures that align with long-term sustainment requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership to software teams, mentor junior developers, and guide design decisions through formal technical review processes.
  • Monitor and resolve technical issues identified during software testing or in production to ensure ongoing reliability and performance.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • BS 12-15 years' experience; MS with 10-13 years' experience or PhD with 10+ years' experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • A minimum of 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with experience leading the development of large-scale, mission-critical systems.
  • Must possess an active DoD Secret clearance, with the ability to obtain a TS clearance.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze user requirements, design software systems, and develop, test, and sustain software solutions at an enterprise level.
  • Proficiency in modern software development methodologies, including Agile practices, CI/CD pipelines, and DevSecOps principles.
  • Expertise in API development, data integration, and architecting maintainable software solutions for long-term sustainment.
  • Strong experience in delivering secure, reliable software solutions in compliance with stringent DoD/Navy environments and regulations.
  • Relevant software development certifications such as Certified Scrum Developer (CSD), SAFe Agile Certification, or DevOps certifications may be required based on contract needs.
  • Proven ability to lead technical design decisions, resolve complex technical issues, and create concise technical documentation.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment and engage with multiple stakeholders effectively at various levels.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success delivering production software systems in DoD or Navy environments, particularly in programs with strict reliability and security demands.
  • Experience mentoring teams, participating in formal design reviews, and fostering an environment of technical excellence.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps tools and practices, including containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), automated testing frameworks, and application security protocols.
  • Strong technical communication skills, with experience presenting designs, progress records, and performance metrics to upper management and government stakeholders.
