    Description

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

We are seeking a Senior Site Technical Manager with a focus on Manufacturing Test Engineering to join our Customer Terminal Engineering organization. This high-impact role bridges site-level manufacturing leadership with hands-on test infrastructure ownership, spanning the full product lifecycle for Aviation antennas, from early prototype builds through mass production and sustaining. You will be embedded at contract manufacturer sites, driving the SMT manufacturing processes, final assembly, and test systems to support Customer Terminal manufacturing for our diverse set of Aviation customers.

    Export Control Requirement:

This position may require access to information, technology, or hardware that is subject to export control laws and regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Employment in this position is contingent upon obtaining any required export licenses or other approvals from the United States government. As such, the successful candidate must be eligible to obtain any necessary export licenses or approvals based on their nationality, citizenship, and any other factors considered by the applicable export control regulations.

    Key job responsibilities

As a Senior Site Technical Manager, you will be leading projects to ever-evolving customer needs for the continual development and innovation of Aviation Customer Terminals.

    As an ideal candidate:

    • SMT Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the primary SMT process expert to the contract manufacturer, providing guidance on solder paste printing, component placement, reflow profiling, and inspection. Partner with the CM to dial in processes, troubleshoot yield-limiting defects, and ensure assembly quality meets CT performance standards.
    • Test Coverage Document (TCD) Ownership: Own the TCD as the single source of truth bridging the engineering team and CM by defining what is tested, at which stage, and to what specification, ensuring full traceability from design requirements through factory test execution.
    • Test Strategy & Automation: Define modular test strategies informed by the TCD. Develop, qualify, and execute test sequences using Test Stand, Kazam or other interfaces to maintain test integrity with GR&R, Cp/Cpk, and correlation analysis.
    • Yield Improvement & Data Analytics: Lead yield attack initiatives analyzing first pass and final pass failures. Conduct DOEs to root-cause defects, feeding findings back into the TCD to continuously refine test coverage and limits.
    • Design Feedback & CM Partnership: Drive DFM/DFA feedback to hardware and firmware teams with testability requirements captured in the TCD from early design phases. Lead cross-functional coordination across engineering, business development, operations, and the CM.

    A day in the life

Every day brings new challenges to Leo. In the morning, you may be working on the technology roadmap for the next five years and in the afternoon diving deep on a technical issue delaying a build. The ability to set priorities using high value judgement is a must in the role as you will have independence on focus on what you deem is critical to the organization.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
