Sr. Python Engineer (ETL Developer IV) - Chicago, IL
About the Role
Join a high-impact data engineering team as a Sr. Python Engineer focusing on enterprise-scale ETL solutions. You will lead the design, development, and optimization of advanced backend ETL services, leveraging cloud-native technologies to drive business-critical analytics. Collaborate with cross-functional experts and develop your technical leadership in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, implementation, deployment, and tuning of backend ETL services for large-scale enterprise data solutions
- Analyze complex data systems, provide efficient technical solutions, and drive continuous improvement in data processing
- Develop and enforce standards for ETL code quality, compliance, and best practices throughout the project lifecycle
- Collaborate with architects, platform engineers, and product owners to deliver high-performance, reliable data pipelines
- Conduct root-cause analysis for production issues and ensure robust database monitoring and incident resolution
- Author functional specifications and technical designs, aligning deliverables with business needs and objectives
- Implement advanced code and configuration automation within CI/CD frameworks and Infrastructure-as-Code environments
- Provide technical guidance, effort estimation, and impact analysis for project planning and execution
Required Skills and Experience
- 6+ years in ETL development with deep expertise in data cleansing, profiling, transformation, and workflow automation
- Advanced proficiency in complex Python or PySpark coding for data engineering
- Expert-level SQL skills, including performance tuning and debugging
- 3-4 years of hands-on experience with AWS services: Glue, Step Functions, EventBridge, S3, Redshift, Lambda, RDS Aurora/MySQL, CloudWatch
- Strong knowledge of database internals, especially AWS RDS MySQL
- Experience with big data processing and automation using CI/CD and IaC tools (Harness, YAML, CloudFormation)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field (preferred)
Preferred Skills
- Proven experience as a technical lead for ETL/Data Engineering teams
- Hands-on exposure to Apache Iceberg
- Familiarity with observability tools such as Dynatrace or DataDog
